The first major difference between the book and the movie is when the movie starts in the white house were as in the book sarny could never go into the white house. The next difference that comes up is in the movie where sarny is making desert for the wallers she drops desert and then gets slapped by the Mrs. were in the book they skip over that and go right to sarny meeting NightJohn. The following events play out relatively the same except NightJohn in the movie was bought for 500 dollars instead of 1,000 dollars in the book. The next major difference is the slaves were allowed to go to church and did go to church and sarny even got baptized. Then in the book, Sarny never went to church and it was never even mentioned if Waller let his slaves go to church. Also in the movie Wallers wife has a relationship with a doctor. Were in the book none of that happened instead they focused on sarnys origin and life on the plantation they also focused on other characters such as Alise or Jim. Then one night sarny gets caught learning how to read and write by mammy. In the book at first mammy doesn't let sarny learn to read and write but eventually trusts NightJohn when she learned he escaped and came back to teach. Then in the movie mammy doesn't agree with NightJohn and the old guy gets involved saying he got his finger cut off for learning how to read and write. After that waller catches Sarny writing but in the movie it's over Sarny stealing a bible. In both version mammy gets blamed at first but then NightJohn steps in and takes the blame and in the nook he got both his middle toe cut off were in the move he go his finger cut off.After that the book and the movie become two different stories.The books resolution goes like this after NightJohn gets his toes cut off he makes shoes and runs away to teach other students. The eventually NightJohn comes back to teach sarny and other slaves in a pit school

The book and movie NightJohn mostly similar settings but there is some differences. The first settings are different were sarny in the movie starts of in the white house and actually works in the white house were in the book sarny was never allowed in the white house. One thing that is the same throughout the book and movie is the wallers plantation and there house and the spring house and the slaves bunks are the same. One thing is different is the church. In the movie the slaves spend a reasonable amount of time in the church and in the book the church was not mentioned but god was and religion was and the slaves weren't allowed to berelis or pray. In conclusion the setting of both stories are pretty much the same but they do have a few differences
