After the registration is settled down,(normally after/at Week 3), then the system will set up groups for you. Please go to the Communications/Groups, you should be able to find your group #, and the other members in your group, and you also can see their email addresses. When you need to contact each other, under the Discussion, there is one assignment forum set up for you to communicate, also, you can set up your own communication channels, like WhatsApp, Facebook, and so on. But the best place to communicate is under this course's Discussion area.

Q: if I am seeing checkmarks beside each section in Unit 1 that I have completed (it does state i have completed 100%), is this mean that I have completed all tasks needed? I don't want to miss a quiz or anything by the deadline (or, by the end of the week)

A: Those Checkmarks are just for ACTIVITIES (readings, doing the in-course shell activities, etc)--those are some of the instructional design strategies that are used to help students work with the learning materials.

Students still need to do the Discussion/Assignment/Quiz/Test. For these items that link with a grade, please go see the items under Evaluation.

i.e., as of this moment, if you already completed Unit 1 (you already could see all Checkmarks besides all sections/areas/topics), BUT, when I check the Discussion Forum Topic 1.1 , if I cannot see you that you had posted your own thread once and responded to 2 of your peers' posts, so, based on the Evaluation and the grading criteria for the Discussion Topic 1.1--you can not get a grade for this Evaluation item. Student 1 (on top), there is no # shows, so, this student will not get marks. Student 2 (below), create own post/ (1 Thread) and respond to others (Replies 3--needs 2 replies indeed). So this student will see a full mark (10) under his/her name. And then, this 10 will automatically transfer to its weights--should show 2.5 for 10 marks earned.

For discussion 2, please also make sure that you post your own post, and then respond to another 2 students' posts, and make sure that you complete these by the end of week 6, so as to get full marks.

The House Design Project

Under the Evaluation/House design project, it says: It is assigned in Week 8 and due in Week 12. So it would be best if you did not rush to do this Project (I appreciate your enthusiasm).

If you and your group want to start early, make sure you READ everything from this week all the way to week 8 before you start the Project, AND then keep reading until week 12 while working on the assignment because there is SO much helpful information along the way.

There is another reason why this project starts at Week 8--after you learn about some construction details, like, the wall assemblies.

General rules on Final Letter Grade-@ end of the semester

If your grade is at least 49.5 (F) or 59.5 (D) (out of 100) etc., it automatically gets raised to the next level letter grade (D) or (C);

If your grade is very close to the .5 limit, it may get raised after the Faculty grading meeting discussions at the end of the semester;

If you hope to improve your grade from anything other than F to D or D to C, for example, C to B or B to A, sorry, but that is not possible and against College policies.

Student can see their Final Letter Grade on MyCentennial, after School's official release date/time.

Following instructions and Taking/Finishing EVERY exam/test/quiz/assignment/project are extremely important.

For your own progress, you can always go to your own Gradebook to check your grades/standings.

As you can see here, the student(s) who have "0" on both Threads and Replies will NOT get a mark for this Topic 1.1 discussion, and student(s) who did partial work will get deducted mark.

Please take a look at the following scenario:

i.e. 2.5 marks for 1 Thread and 2 Replies. Therefore, 1 Thread weighs 0.9 marks, and each Reply weight 0.8 marks. So, a student who posts only 1 Thread will only get 0.9 out of 2.5 marks set up by the instructional designers on the Gradebook.

Quiz/test/exam has only due date and it is always open BEFORE the specific deadline, the setting is for asynchronous study. Note: everyone only get one attempt--meaning that, once you start, you get one chance to complete and once you complete, the grade is the grade for that exam/test/quiz, no other chances.

The College’s Academic Honesty and Plagiarism Policy and related procedures apply equally to academic misconduct involving AI text generators. Instances in which the tools are used to generate text that is then represented as a student’s original writing fall within the scope of the policy’s definition of plagiarism, although an amendment has been made to the policy to include explicit reference in its definition of plagiarism to the representation of ideas, writing, artistic work, creations, etc., generated by AI applications. Unauthorized use of AI writing tools is also considered a breach of policy.

The policy notwithstanding, the College encourages faculty to take a pedagogical or teaching and learning-based approach rather than a punitive approach to academic integrity, focusing on proactive education, communication and good assignment design to prevent plagiarism and other types of academic misconduct.
