Several factors could have led Mr Williams to his suicide. It's known that he's been facing bankruptcy and financial stress hence was forced to sell his assets and take any job he can (low budget films) to make ends meet because he has been so financially stripped due to his 2 divorces with previous wives. In several interviews he spoke of the intense pressure and stress he felt at his financial situation caused by his relationships.

Additionally, Mr Williams been in battle with addiction dating back to more than 30 years. He initially struggled with cocaine and alcohol abuse in the early '80s. Although he quit when he had a child on the way and a dear friend passed due to substance abuse, Mr Williams had relapsed in 2006.

In the months before his death, Robin Williams dealt with paranoia (probably due to his age or/and stress). It was reported he got so confused he couldn’t remember his lines while filming a movie, as his brain was ambushed by what doctors later identified as an unusually severe case of Lewy body dementia. Although Mr Williams could have been struggling with many more hardships not known by anyone but himself, a combination of all these factors could have played a role in his suicide.

Siti Hasanah binti Azahari
1818830

5) Possible intervention or ways of which could be done to prevent his death.

In the modern day scenario, there are many ways to intervene and prevent Robin Williams from committing suicide. Firstly, as a person who was aware of his extreme depression, Robin Williams or his family members could have gotten him the proper treatment needed. A suicidal person would often have an underlying, although most of the time subtle, mental illness. For example, prior to his demise, Robin Williams suffered from major depression which could have been treated by therapy and taking anti-depressants. Anti-depressants are medications meant to supress depressive thoughts and behaviours to calm down a depressive person’s mind. With the anti-depressants, suicidal tendencies would reduce or dissolve altogether.

Next, to prevent a suicidal person from executing their plan, crisis intervention could be done. An example of crisis intervention would be to hospitalise a person with extreme suicidal tendencies in an environment where they would not be able to harm themselves. If Robin Williams was saved moments before his attempt or after his attempt but before his death, he would need to receive emergency treatment and be hospitalise in a mental health facility where he will be treated and cared for. Another type of crisis intervention exists in the form of suicide hotline. Nowadays, many countries have established 24-hour operated suicide hotlines. A suicide hotline operates by a system where callers can call in, express their suicidal thoughts and receive reassurance or support that will, hopefully, prevent them from actually committing the act.

Lastly, a strong support system is important in helping a person with suicidal tendencies. As someone who knows a suicidal person, you should always maintain contact with them and remind them that they are cared for and supported. Most of the time, a suicidal person would have negative intrusive thoughts that tell them there are no more hopes left for them. To counteract this, you should always remind them that their thoughts are wrong, destructive and help them to see the light at the end of the tunnel. For a suicidal person, their troubles would feel terrible, complicated and endless. Therefore, it is important to remind them that they are ways to get out of their current situation, despite what they might think, and that the sun will rise again just as their suffering will not last forever.

Sarah Lynn Aliah Binti Nor Zaidi
1813828

My opinion and what i feel related to his death is that, apart from struggling with addiction and his chronic depression along with paranoia as told by his wife,

I think Robin Williams had a deeply suffering part of him, that he chose to end his life. He was a great actor and embodied many fantasies for many people. But in the end, i am reminded that he just potrayed characters, showing the world what the character meant to show that were not all of him.

Robin Williams had suffered greatly even if we never know what his demons truly were. Thus, it's really important for those who are suffering to acknowledge their demons in a healthy way before they overtake them. If the demon shows up, go get help and try to take a healthy step to make it known to someone.

Nursabrina Nabila binti Azizul Rozany
1621704
