  • Still a young boy, Travis Coates is left to support his mama and brother on their home and family ranch in Texas while his father leaves for a cattle drive.  One day, an old and rather dingy dog comes to their ranch and steals meat that was placed outside for drying.  At first filled with anger but feeling a bit of sympathy, Travis takes in Old Yeller,(named for his yellow coat and rather loud yelling).  Although he first tries several times to get rid of the “rascal” dog, Travis eventually grows incredibly fond of it, even more so after Old Yeller saves his brother Arliss from a bear and himself from wild dogs.  His great love for the dog and Old Yeller’s protection of his family from all things wild cause him to eventually have to make a terrible decision to save the ones he love.

    • After a deranging wildfire in the Black Vine Swamp, 2 middle schoolers, Marta and Nick, start an everlasting search for their teacher, who had been missing ever since. Saying that she had to leave for a family emergency, Ms. Starch had been missing for days, just when detectives accused Duane Scrod Jr., the school slacker, for arson. When Nick and Marta, determine that Smoke, or Duane Scrod Jr.,  is innocent, they discover that Smoke isn’t the only one in danger. The Red Diamond Oil Drilling company is behind a plan, that will comprise of them killing an endangered panther on the Florida coast. Together, Nick, Marta, and Smoke must devise a plan that will save the panther, Smoke himself, and Ms. Starch.
