Teachers need to have content expertise...
but also need to be committed to continued growth and learning. Valid and reliable websites and apps specific to the content area you are teaching offer an opportunity to engage in lifelong learning and a platform to engage your students.

Furthermore, content specific websites and apps offer unique opportunities to meet the the diverse needs of students. As a teacher, you have a responsibility to leverage a variety of tools to promote lifelong learning, engage students, and support the diverse needs WITHIN the specific content area.

This topic invites you to find websites or apps that support a specific content area (i.e. music, science, social studies, art, world languages, math, grammar, physical education, health, etc).

Some apps support content areas broadly (e.g. Duolingo, MyFitness Pal), while other apps are designed to support a specific element of a content area (e.g. Sushi Monster focuses on addition and math skills).

Below is a list of a few content specific apps. You are free to use any of the below apps, though you are certainly welcome to explore additional apps NOT on this list. You will be amazed by what you can find by simply searching for apps/websites in your content area.

Websites are a little trickier...
simply because there are so many websites! You will need to determine the validity and reliability of the website. You should also carefully consider how you (as the teacher) can support students' capacity to identify valid and reliable websites. If you choose a website for this assignment, I suggest carefully considering how to determine if the website is valid and reliable (Who is the author? Are there implicit biases? What is the URL (.edu, .gov, .org)? Are statements justified through references and/or research? Is the content developmentally appropriate for your students (i.e. reading level and content scope)?

Identify an app or website of high quality to support teaching in your content area. If you are an Elementary Education major (or plan to apply to the Elementary Education program), you can choose any content area within grades K through 6.

If you are a secondary or K-12 Education Major (or plan to major in a Secondary or K-12 Education major), choose content that aligns with your area. I suggest looking at several content websites/apps before choosing the one to add to your website.

As with the other core technology skills, learn about your chosen website/app and create something that communicates its pros/cons and potential uses in your future classroom. Make sure to add this assignment to your website as you have done with prior assignments.
