Chance says "When kids hear I live on a boat, they picture a floating mansion outlined with strings of white Christmas lights" Pg.24 This setting is very important because it gives the reader something to imagine as they read the book. The fat guy that worked at the marina office said "I've been watching you, and I'll be watching you". If this guy hadn't been watching Chance and convincing him that he had to take the job, for the better of his family. The outcome of the story would have been way different. Chance and his dad could have figured an alternative solution to their problem. The father wasn't really a father in this book. Leaving Chance and his father unable to pay for the bare necessities including the boat they live in. One day after Chances regular runs he finds himself talking to a man who recently started working at the marina office. This man offers Chance a job, the man says "I want to give you a chance to earn some easy money". Pg.58 This job requires Chance to take his normal route when he runs and to deliver packages. Chance doesn't know what are in the packages. With little to no hesitation Chance takes the job, to support his family. I think the easy way out is not always the right decision because the guy who offered Chance the job said "I want to give you a chance to earn some easy money". Chance hesitated at first and if he had gone with his gut like when he said ", I mean, what happens to he packages? What's in them? Where do they go?".The guy wouldn't answer Chances questions and yet Chance went for the offer.
