To prepare my students to use Assessment for Learning (AfL) effectively, I can create an environment that fosters self-directed learning. One key takeaway from the assessment literacy session was the importance of stepping back as a teacher and not overwhelm students with too much feedback. Instead of giving them the answers, I can ask meaningful questions that prompt thinking and guide them toward discovering solutions on their own. This approach gives them the cognitive space to self-assess, reflect, and take ownership of their learning. In PE, this also involves streamlining assessment criteria to focus on what truly matters, helping students clearly understand success and progress. By doing so, I hope to increase their motivation to learn and support them in developing the confidence and skills to drive their own learning effectively through AfL.
