I believe this quotes reflects the widely-held admiration of those who give to others, whether it be gifts that show compassion or actions which emanate warmth. When a person does something for someone else, the recipient remembers the generosity of the action, even if the giver may forget. For instance, you may make cookies to cheer someone up and forget, but they will always remember your compassionate action. When you need help, this person will be there for you. Not only in the Anglo-Saxon times of Beowulf, but also in modern day, if you give to others, they will be appreciative and give back to you.

What this means to me is that we should be nice to people now so that when we need their help later, they will be there for us. Beowolf was inspiring and protected people during his youth so in his old age, people were eager to go fight with him. Even after his death, we was honored. The quote could probably be simplified to lead by example. If you're a good person and leader, others will emulate your qualities and be eager to help you when you need it most. And being a good person is of course relative to what society values. That means you can still be a good person without being a warrior. Just apply the same heroic principals and the respect from others will follow naturally.

The quote is a great reminder to us in modern times that those around us will watch and hopefully admire our actions. People are judged by what they do, and as much as we have discussed that identity comes from within an individual, our society holds us accountable through our actions. In addition, this quote appropriately reflects the values of the Anglo-Saxons - generosity, loyalty, and friendship - which are still regarded as admirable qualities in modern times.

The last part of the quote which says "Behavior that's admired is the path to power among people everywhere" applies to modern times. People what those that they respect and admire to be their leaders. This was very relevant for last year's election. Voters were forced to chose someone that they thought had qualities admirable enough to elect as president. Additionally, Beowulf's father was living so that people would help him in his times of need. This ties into the idea of loyalty, one of the key values of the time period. Moreover, this idea goes with the ending part of Beowulf when he is fighting the dragon and needs help and only one man comes to his aid.

One of the qualities of a beliefs/morals of the Anglo-Saxons was friendship and building those community and familial bonds. This quote is explaining that as a young prince (or anyone in society) it is important to put their best foot forward and make a lasting and impression on others. A bad impression lasts just as long as a good one and one rarely has a second chance. Then as times passes you by, you may come across that old friend or need support and those who know your character will stand firmly behind you.

This quote tells us that people judge others most often by their behavior and actions. One can make either a good or bad first impression on another simply by how they behave towards others. Therefore, one is able to build relationships through respectful behavior. It has been a value that has stayed applicable to human lives for centuries. Even at the time of Beowulf, behavior acted as an extremely important item in determining relationships. Beowulf was respected by King Hrothgar for his heroic actions and behaviors in slaying monsters. Behavior led him on the path to power among the people of Herot, as explained in the quote.

This quote is very relevant to successful people today. The quote is trying to say that those that work hard will gain supporters along the way, who urge them to reach their goal. People who have gained their success from hard work and determination are admired by others around them. Those in a position of power are often looked up to by their peers. They are leaders and they motivate others to never stop trying to reach their goals too.
