Abraham was an important outcome of the Civil War because he built the Republican Party into a strong national organization and he brought most of the northern Democrats to the Union cause. Also, Abraham's Emancipation Proclamation freed about 20,000 slaves in the Confederate-held territory.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>December 20th, 1860<br>On December 20th, some states decide to secede from the Union in response to Lincoln becoming president. The first state to secede was South Carolina and by February 1861 six more states decided to secede as well. The secession of the southern states led to the start of the civil war and the Establishment of the Confederacy but eventually this movement got defeated by the Confederate Armies.</div>]]></description>

The Confederate and Union armies clashed near Manassas Junction, Virginia. The battle began when 35,000 Union troops went to the federal capital in Washington to attack the Confederate force of 20,000 people near a river called the Bull run. After this, the North realized that the battle would not be as easy as they thought it would be. This battle was the first big battle to start off the Civil War</div>]]></description>

The proclamation declared that all people that are held as slaves are now free in the rebellious states. The border states (Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, and West Virginia ) slaves were also declared free. This event affected the outcome of the war because this proclamation changed the meaning and purpose of the Civil War and it also changed how each side interpreted the war.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>July 1–3, 1863<br>The Battle of Gettysburg was fought  around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This was when Robert E. Lee set in motion his second invasion of the Northern states.Lee attacked the Union center on Cemetery Ridge and was repulsed with heavy losses. Lee's second invasion  failed and had resulted in an about 51,000 casualties on both sides. This was the bloodiest single battle of the entire war. This event was important to the outcome of the Civil War because would give the North a major boost and put a definitive end to  Lee's plan to invade the North.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>November 19, 1863<br>The Gettysburg Address was remarks delivered by Abraham Lincoln which later became known as the Gettysburg Address. This took place at the official dedication ceremony for the National Cemetery of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. This was also on the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. This speech would  also be remembered as one of the most important speeches in American history. The Gettysburg address Abe invoked the principles of human equality contained in the Declaration of Independence and connected all the sacrifices people put into the Civil War with a desire for a new birth of freedom.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div> April 14, 1865<br>On this day, a famous actor and Confederate sympathizer, assassinated Abraham Lincoln at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. This attack happened 5 days after Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his massive army at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, which ended the Civil War. Booth killed Abe by firing a 44-caliber single shot derringer pistol into the back of Abraham Lincolns head. This all happened after the Civil War but at least Lincoln helped win it.</div>]]></description>
