Interesting Book on Habits

hello everyone, my name is Colette Sleight and I'm in Sales Planning with MEA. I read this book recently and really enjoyed it. Below are some of my takeaways from the book. I'd be interested in discussing how we can use these insights in our daily work especially in supporting the sales team.

•“Success is the product of daily habits – not once in a lifetime transformations.”

•“Outcomes are a lagging measure of your habits.”

•“You get what you repeat.”

•“results have very little to do with the goals I set and nearly everything to do with the systems I followed.”

•“What we really need to change are the systems that cause those results.”

•“Outcomes are about what you get. Processes are about what you do. Identity is about what you believe.”

•“There are a set of beliefs and assumptions that shape the system, an identity behind the habits.”

•“The more pride you have in a particular aspect of your identity, the more motivated you will be to maintain the habits associated with it.”

•“True behavior change is identity change.”

•“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.”

•“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

•“Every habit is context dependent.”

•“Habits are all about associations. These associations determine whether we predict a habit to be worth repeating or not.”

•“When preparation becomes a form of procrastination, you need to change something. You don’t want to be merely planning. You want to be practicing.”

•“Positive emotions cultivate habits. Negative emotions destroy them.”

•“We optimize for what we measure.”

•“Mastery requires practice. But the more you practice something, the more routine and boring it becomes. The greatest threat to success is not failure but boredom.”

Hello, I'm Rae Ballard from the MEA SCM Transportation Team. I'm interested in discussing the advantages and significance of team building within the workplace. Team building activities can be done both virtually and in person.

This Friday, my team will have our inaugural team-building activity, the first of 4 in 24F. I aimed to plan a learning activity that would be relevant to Murata, but also incorporate an element of fun. I am looking forward to everyone's presentations and the open discussions that will follow.

Did you know, based on multiple studies, surveys and polls cited from teambuilding(dot)com, that:

In response to the global shift to remote work caused by COVID, there was a nearly 2500% increase in interest in online and virtual team building activities!

Behind Singapore, The United States is the #2 country investing in virtual team building.

Socializing between team members improves communication patterns more than 50%.

Feelings of employee isolation reduces productivity up to 21%.

Camaraderie promotes group loyalty and dedication to work.

Being familiar with your team improves your performance over time.

When employees feel their opinions count, companies could benefit from a 27% decrease in turnover rate, 40% decrease in safety incidents, and 12% increase in productivity.

Companies with high employee engagement record 21% better profitability.

Team leaders and managers contribute 70% to variance in team engagement.

Companies with high levels of employee engagement record 89% higher customer satisfaction.

Employee engagement statistics show that a lack of employee engagement is a major issue in today’s business environment and could cost a company a significant amount of revenue loss for many different reasons (employee productivity, employee retention, etc). These bullets above are just a few of the many statistics and statements I found on the importance of team building in the workplace. Businesses should want to do all they can to keep their employees engaged and dedicated to the company’s success, or they may risk losing top talent to competitors or other opportunities.
