A federal agency created with the 1906 Food and Drugs Act, and was founded to protect consumers from adulterated and misbranded food or drugs. The creation was provoked specifically by the horrid conditions of the meatpacking industry, but also to help regulate all other food manufacturers, and approving drugs, which stops people from being prescribed either ineffective, or deadly medicine. This guaranteed American consumers a standard of quality for whatever they would be putting into their body, which not only helped the country be healthier, but forced food and drug manufacturers to keep their factories clean

A novel by Upton Sinclair depicted the life and tribulations of an immigrant worker that worked in the meatpacking industry. The original point of this book was to point out the plight of the immigrant worker that was forced into wage slavery, but rather, the public focused on the awful working conditions of their food industries that was clearly depicted. There were chemicals, dirt, sawdust, rat droppings, and even human parts in the meat, and this outraged the public. This book was an immediate cause for the passage of the drug act that founded the FDA that would regulate food and drug manufacturing, assuring people that these conditions would not be around any longer.

Any group of journalists that focused on writing exposes and pushing for Reform in the early 1900s. They would write very detailed accounts of the effects of large corporations, populating cities, and industrialization. They analyze the economic and political corruption, as well as the social turmoil that are caused, and tries to expose these issues to the general public. These muckrakers had a lot of influence, as they were very popular, and were around for the boom in media, so whatever they wrote about was likely to see quick change, such as the meat packing industry, monopolies, foreign relations, etc.
