What is it that makes Leslie and jess so compatible?

In this astounding film Jess starts out as a boy who is facing the world on his own, he is very creative and has a wide sense of humour. Leslie is someone who thinks she can do anything she believes that nothing is impossible. Leslie believes in equality she doesn't think that boys are better then girls or girls are better then boys she thinks we are equal. I believe that they are so compatible because they both share a creative imagination. In a scene of the movie Leslie joins the boys running competition and some one says “ Get out your not a boy” this shows that Jess and Leslie are equal and boys and girls can like the same thing. This shows that they are compatiable because they can like the same things and share the same opinions, they enjoy the same things and that goes to show that they are compatible because they have the same intrests.

I think they are compatiable because in the film they both have experienced being bullied and being the outsider. I think this makes them compatiable because they have been through being bullied and when one of them are being bullied the other can help them get through the day and they can show each other how to get out of trouble.

Jess and Leslie are compatible because Leslie encourages Jess to do what he wants to do for example she says “You are who you are - not your parents”. This shows Jess that Leslie cares for him and wants him to achieve his own goals. When leslie says this I think that it just makes Jess a lot more connected to her because she believes in him and it shows that Leslie likes Jess for who he is. Jess doesnt have to live up to the expectations of his Mum and Dad he can be his self around her.

Another reason why they are compatible is because they both push each other to the limits like if Jess isn't sure about something Leslie will show him that its safe and that you need to take risks to have that fun. Jess and Leslie share a really strong bond and it just goes to show that journey they have is really fun and they trust each other.

What does the film teach The audience about friendship?

In the film Jess and Leslie's friendship is basically the theme for the movie, the whole movie is based on their friendship. It shows us that friendship and sharing a bond with a peer is the most important part of friendship, and is the solution to developing a creative imagination. In the emotional scene of the movie where Leslie passes away, it shows us that we learn that being involved in the kind of friendship that Jess and Leslie share is worth even the most devastating loss. It was devastating to see Leslie die but it demonstrates that the friendship they share was real and the world that they created will continue on with May Bell. The world they created won’t be lost and will be with them for the rest of their lives .

Find a Gospel story that involves Jesus and explores the theme of friendship. What can Christians learn from this story?

I choose Ruth and Naomi for the Gospel:

In the gospel of this paragraph I think it relates to the theme of 'Bridge Of Terabithia' becuase it shows that Ruth will stick up for her friends and I believe that Ruth represents Leslie because Leslie is the kind of person who will stick up for anyone. For example in the film Janis Avery was upset in theand Leslie went and talked to her but Janis was the person who was bullying her so why would she go on help Janis. This shows that Leslie cares for many of people and she generally is a nice human. This gospel that I chose also relates to the film of friendship because at the end of the gospel is shows that Naomi was no longer empty, alone of sad She was a different woman, and it was because of what God gave her in her friend Ruth. Naomi reminds me of Jess at the start of the movie he was a loner and he was picked on but when Leslie was brought into the picture he was treated with more respect and gradittude. I think that the gosepl is very similar to the theme of this movie.

Supplementary
Questions:

During the first week of school, Jess begins to
change his mind about getting to know Leslie. Why do you think he changes his
mind?

At the start of the movie you could see that Jess was very cautious with what he wears and what people think of him. For example at the start of the film Jess had to wear girls shoes because his shoes were broken, he was very upset and you could tell on his face. Where as Leslie is the sort of person who isn't shy and she doesn't mind what people think of her. As Jess gets to know Leslie he sees how she doesn't fit in with all the other girls, he sees that she gets picked on really eaisly. I think that he changes his mind because he has experienced people thinking that he is different. Jess and Leslie both have trouble being accepted into their class. I believe that he feels bad for her thats why he starts to hang out with her but then he soon realises her true colours and he likes them. I believe that Jess likes that Leslies family is wealthy and he loves the imagination she brings to the table.

Supplementary Questions:

A couple of months later, Jess comes to feel that “Leslie was more than his friend. She was his other, more exciting self—his way to Terabithia and all the worlds beyond.” In your own words, what does this mean?

I think this means that Leslie and Jess share a very rare bond they use Terabithia as an excuse to hang out after school hours. I think is it wasn't for Leslie Jess wouldn't be able to experience the land of Terabithia because he wouldn't of been given the satisfaction to even think bout exploring the world of terabithia. As Jess got to know Leslie you can see a change in his life, he his more imaginative and more brave. Leslie has shown him that you can be who yo are in both worlds the world of Terabithia and the world that they live in.

Supplementary Questions:

Why do you think kids often make fun of others who are different? Do the students at our school have the same tendency to do this as the students in Jess and Leslie’s school do?

In the movie I think that kids make fun of each other so that they get ahead in life and so they wont be the ones getting bullied. In the movie I think it is stated that you are the bully and if your not a bully you will get bullied. I think we do have the same problem at school its just not stated as much because were not living in a movie. I think that the kids at our school will have a different problem or excuse of hurting someones feeling but I believe that people will bully because they want to protect themselves from the people that can bully them. The problems with bulling would be jealousy, misunderstandings or pride these are huge things that happen everywhere in the world and its just a matter of who you are and will dictate your life.

I would enjoy Leslie in my class I think that she would be a great role model because she is very different and she stands for her own responsibilities. I would love to be a good friend of Leslie I think she would help me get my confidence up go stick up for myself. Leslie has many qualities that I like such as she loves to run and I like running too. I believe that Leslie would be a great classmate and she would be a loyal and generous classmate. I think she would be better off at St Josephs College because at our school I think we are less judgemental and she would be free to speak her mind.

'Just close your eyes, but keep your mind wide open'- Leslie
I like this quote because it shows us that their is a world that we have not yet experienced and if we keep our options open we can be creative and imaginative and it will get us a lot further in life.

'Leslie Burke is right. Mind like yours wide open, you could create a whole new world' –Ms. Edmonds
I like this quote because it shows that the teachers or trusted adults do understand what Leslie was saying in the movie and it goes to show that Leslie had a huge impact on their lives and she showed us that we can do whatever we want to if we just believe.

'You are who you are - not your parents'. - Leslie
It shows us that Leslie believes that you don't have to follow the foot steps of your parents you can be who you are and nothing will stop you. Follow your dream and you will achieve just don't ever give up.

'She brought you something special when she came here, didn’t she? That’s what you hold onto. That’s how you keep her alive'. – Jess’s Dad
I think that this quote is very inspirational because it shows Jess that Leslie is still going to be with him is whole life and nothing will take that away from him. When the dad says 'Thats how you keep her alive'. I think that means you hold onto the stuff that she taught and you show it to the people that haven't experience the creative and imaginative world.
