Signposting subject lessons&nbsp; simply means making the planned activities clear to the students.<br>Teachers decide on sequence of lesson<br>Place visuals on the side of the board in order &nbsp;<br>Point to each visual as activity begins&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<br>Remove the pictures when the activities are finished.&nbsp;<br>This makes the progression of the lesson even clearer. (Great for SEN students too)<br>These are my own design, we use these visuals in every classroom as a whole school strategy.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>To allow EAL learners greater access to lesson content teachers can provide students with keywords in their home language. Keywords can be displayed in the classroom, taken down from the board, printed off or emailed to students.<br>Explicit vocabulary instruction supports all learners. Select the critical words before the lesson, explain the words using a student friendly definition, explore the words using a Frayer organiser and consolidate the words by returning to them in class or ask students to return to them independently using apps or by engaging in retrieval practice in class. <br>Using the tiers of language supports CALP development. Let EAL learners make good use of their home language whenever possible. <br><br><strong>If there are students in the class</strong> <strong>who speak the same home language</strong>, create authentic opportunities to allow them to draw on their home language to successfully collaborate and make meaningful contributions linguistically, conceptually, and academically. <br>Encourage students to<br>- C<strong>larify  or discuss key concepts</strong> with a classmate who speaks the same home language.<br>- <strong>Summarise the important details about what they have just read, heard or learned </strong>with a classmate who speaks the same home language.<br>- <strong>Reflect upon the task at hand and negotiate an appropriate response</strong> with a classmate who speaks the same home language.<br>- <strong>Brainstorm</strong> (discuss, or write) ideas around a particular subject with a classmate who speaks the same home language.<br>- <strong>Quick-write</strong> as much as they can in a short amount of time about a particular subject or topic with a classmate who speaks the same home language.<br>- <strong>K-W-L</strong>: <br>Students can discuss or fill in the what they know, want to know and what they have learned about a particular topic with a classmate who speaks the same home language.<br>- <strong>Read materials</strong> in their home language, to build background, increase reading skills or clarify concepts. (Google, Wikipedia, YouTube)<br>- <strong>Make notes</strong> in their home language.<br>- <strong>Draft work</strong> in home language - translate to English<br>- <strong>Research a topic</strong> in home language- present in English<br>- <strong>Read task</strong> in English - answer in home language<br>- <strong>Annotate</strong> in home language - present in English<br>- <strong>Create</strong> a product in English -present  in home language (or vice versa)<br>These strategies will help the EAL learner say want to say without limiting themselves to the language they already know in English.<br>The fact that you don’t speak their language is not relevant. <br>What is important is that you acknowledge a student’s  home language and recognise that it is a learning tool for them.</div>]]></description>
