In the story "Water Booger Bears" characters explore friendship. For example, TJ helps his friend Jasmine with many things when she doesn't feel well. The two of them also have a sort of friendship ritual where they put empty bags in each other's lockers. They call these bags Friendship Flags.

"...And if for some strange reason either of these things happened, at least she knew TJ was there to help." (3)

In "The Low Cuts Strike Again" the group is connected together through similarities with parents having cancer, and this makes them friends.

"Water Booger Bears" character TJ is a very sloppy and gross, but interesting person.

"...With the hardened snot like tiny stones in front of his nose, TJ turned the bottom of his shirt up and mopped it" (3)

This quote in the story shows just how gross TJ can really be. However, Jasmine still is his friend. He likes to get gum off of the bottom of his shoes and sometimes eats his own boogers. Despite all that, his quirky personality is what makes him interesting.
