Work Week 1 BFA Project

This week, I mainly worked on revising my Grant Application (around 3.5 to 4 hours) to remove repeated statements and added information to help communicate what I am executing for this project. I focused on securing resources for this project such as buying a 48" x 60" canvas as my work surface for this project. I also took reference photos that matched my vision for what this painting would end up looking like. This reference for me perfectly matches what I want to achieve and communicate for my idea of the artist's relationship to their work. My plan for the next week of work is to draw my reference photo onto the canvas and paint the whole surface.

Work Week 2 BFA Project

For this week of work, I painted a wash over the painting, sketched out the drawing for the composition using a projector, and painted a bit of the left side of the body. I wanted to get more done this week, but I wasn't able to transport the canvas until Saturday and couldn't get a projector until Monday since the print lab check in area was closed for last week (at least that's what one of the monitors told me when I tried to check out one last week). For next week, I plan on painting the whole painting before critique (basically covering the whole camvas with paint. I may also try to get more reference photos like the clay sculptures the figure will be constructing in the painting for this week.

Work Week 3 BFA Project

Was able to complete the figure for this week and paint a bit of darkness in the background. Plan on painting the whole composition and then work on adding details to the left side of the body this work week. Might take some reference photos of the clay figure he is sculpting in the composition this week.

Work Week 4 BFA Project

Painted the whole composition and repainted over the left arm to make it more accurate to my reference photo. Pretty happy with how the skin is pulsating on the left arm. Going to make the skin textured and leave the fabric smooth to give that sense of contrast. Going to take reference photos of the clay this week and continue working on the figure. Will probably work on the head for next week.

Museum Visit

I went to the BMA for my gallery visit. We went to a lot of the galleries being shown at the BMA including the African, Asian, Contemporary, Matisse, Printmaking, Elizabeth Talford Scott, and an exhibit holding older works. I was really captivated by the all of the contemporart works especially the abstract textured collages of Martha Jackson Jarvis. Even though I don't create abstract art, seeing her work was mesmorizing with just how many different color applications and patterns were on display in her work. I was also really drawn to the works of Theodore Robinson with how soft and painterly all of his paintings were. I want to capture those aspects in my paintings going forward to see if I can capture that serene and tranquil feeling of viewing our environment around us. Definitely want to go back to BMA again.

Work Week 5 BFA Project

I finished painting the face. Need to paint the hair a bit more. Will probably paint a bit of the hair before class. I plan on painting the right side of the body by next class. I plan on.getting reference photos for the clay figures sometime next week and will do a rough sketch on what that will look like.

Work Week 6 BFA Project

Finished the right part of the hair and right part of the chest. Plan on finishing the right arm and getting reference photos for the clay this Friday. Also will probably repaint the black background as well and see if a matte finish is better

Work Week 7

Finished the right arm, now finishing up the knees so I can move onto the other parts of the painting. Also took a reference photo of the clay figure that the character is sculpting. My main goal during class is to finish a majority of the left knee. Will probably paint the floor to make it look like a tangible surface. Will probably also paint the background a matte black to see how the contrast looks.
