Before marriage, they learned how to be a housewife (weaving, cooking, washing, and cleaning) unless they were of a wealthy family - then housemaids would take care of these tasks. Women were dependent and belonged in the private sphere. Meant to run households and raise families. They were more religious and morally finer than men. They had hardly any freedom.
