Prepare by thinking about your experience and have concrete examples to demonstrate your understanding of questions (planning, management, learning, student engagement, etc.). Engage in dialogue and ask questions; you want to find a good fit for yourself as well.

1. Practice "hard" questions that often pop up in interviews--such as, "explain a time when your lesson did not go as planned--what did you learn from this experience?" 2. Do some research on the school--look at staff directory on the website, review the school website, try to identify what is important/unique about the school 3. And, always have some questions ready for the end of the interview...something like, "what makes staff enjoy coming to work at this school every day?" Questions that help you understand culture/climate, challenges and priorities for the school, in addition to general questions about logistics and so forth (bell schedule, professional learning opportunities, etc.) 4. Send a follow up email within 12 hours of the interview to at least one person from the interview committee.

We offer district and school-based professional development. All schools participate in weekly professional learning communities. The administration is in classrooms frequently to support and coach. All schools have building instructional coaches, and there is a district coach.

Because we are such a small district, every teacher has the opportunity to engage with district leadership, share their ideas, and make an impact with their voice on a regular basis. We have a robust orientation and new teacher mentor program, and all of our schools have an instructional coach to support staff (new and veteran) every day. Advancement opportunities often start in-district for hiring. We also have optional weekly paid training opportunities that the district runs--often it is teachers who plan and run these based on needs they see and expertise in their own classrooms...for example, this year we have two Spanish teachers teaching staff Spanish so we can better communicate with our Spanish speaking families. We have regular PD, teacher work days, and district PD(a total of 14 days dedicated to work time and PD) in addition to weekly PLC and MTSS meetings at every school.

We are a very small district with four elementary schools, one middle school, and two high schools. Our schools are neighborhood schools with a deep sense of community and tradition.

Englewood is a very small district, which is a huge asset--we can be nimble, efficient, and well-connected as a teaching-learning community. Large districts have many benefits, as well, but Englewood has a very unique opportunity to work more intentionally to serve our small town. Even though we are an urban neighborhood, the feel of Englewood is like a small town--it is a very tight-knit, pro-public education community. Parents, families, students, and staff have a lot of pride in long-standing traditions as well as new opportunities to continue to enhance student access to rigorous and creative learning.

Although SVVSD is the 7th largest district in Colorado, it feels much more small-community minded. This is in large part due to the wide variety of smaller communities that we serve. We have the mountains, the plains, small town, larger city....just about anything that you'd like and just a half hour average to metro Denver. SVVSD has the highest graduation rate and highest base teacher pay out of all the large Denver metro-area school districts, and is widely known across the country as a leader in innovative education.

Denver Public Schools supports teacher growth through funded professional learning, credentialing opportunities, year‑long coaching and mentorship (including the New Teacher Induction Program and residency supports), access to instructional coaches, and collaborative Professional Learning Communities. Teachers can advance into specialized roles—such as instructional coach, content specialist, MTSS/interventionist, or curriculum lead—and pursue school leadership through lead teacher positions, principal residencies, and central‑office roles. Educators build instructional impact by using data to set measurable goals, engaging in improvement cycles, and documenting student growth for promotion or competitive roles. DPS also offers pathways for recognition and compensation—such as stipends for hard‑to‑fill subjects, support for National Board Certification, mentor teacher stipends, and participation in high‑impact programs—that expand skills and marketability. Teachers accelerate their growth by seeking regular feedback, taking on stretch assignments (curriculum design, pilot programs), maintaining an evidence portfolio of practice and student outcomes, and actively engaging families and community partners.
