"The greatest and most grievance punishment for an offense against the state. You would get drawn from a prison and become hung from a rope." Once dead they were dragged and then their limbs were all cut off. And once that happened everything was tossed into a burning fire. This seems like the least excruciating punishment to me but apparently it was the worst.

During the Elizabethan Era the 'death penalty' AKA a normal punishment, was used more often than not honestly. Today there is only 31 states who use the death penalty. Major crimes today include murder, rape, treason, burglary, manslaughter etc. The punishments for these crimes can be jail time, life sentences, jail row, and the most severe is the death penalty. Major crimes during the Elizabethan Era included treason, spying, blasphemy, sedition, rebellion, murder, witchcraft. These were met with very painful and embarrassing punishments. These punishments were sometimes very creative though.

Many people committed crimes during this time but each persons punishment had no discrimination on what class they were in. Nobles were often beheaded if they did something wrong. They had equality when it came to punishments. Lower classes were sometimes executed for begging. Or publicly humiliated with some sort of punishment for stealing small remedies that weren't affordable.

During this era, the most common punishments were stretching, burning, beating, drowning, and beating. these tactics were used to intimidate or receive information from someone. torture was used on prisoners to demeanor their will and take away their freedom because of a crime committed. Some of the cool punishments included the wheel, which was when a person was tied to a wheel and spun while being hit with objects. Another was being branded for small punishments to let other people know what you have done.

The Elizabethan Era took place from 1558 - 1603. It was named The Elizabethan Era because of the current ruler during that time Queen Elizabeth I. This time was also called England's golden age because of the peace and prosperity it produced. It was anything but pleasant but the violent results of crimes lead to overall peace because people would become scared. This was actually very influential towards future English history.
