He is on trial and might go to prison forever. His defendant Kathy O’Brien has doubts about his his innocence and his prosecutor, Sandra Petrocelli is trying to prove that Steve is the culprit of the murder. He names this book after what the prosecutor called him, “Monster”. The witnesses presented in these two parts are mr. Zinzi  and mr. Bolden being both prisoners and Osvaldo who participated in the robbery.
