Because the lesson wheel is a great tool that helps with applying the backward approach and guidance on incorporating all the aspects of lesson planning. Always keep this information in mind when throughout the lesson planning process.

The first step is to identify the lesson objectives (what you want your learners to learn from the lesson). These objectives are identified from the topic and content you plan to teach.

Example the teacher asking learners few questions about a text they just read to see if the are about to understand it. The assessment tool will be observation.

The fourth step requires you as the teacher to identify the learner activities that learners will do during the lesson. Example when teachers ask a question the learners will have to cooperate and answer the questions.

In the fifth step the teacher has to identify the teaching activities he/she will do throughout the lesson. Example the type of questions the teacher will ask the learners during the lesson. As well as the observation and facilitation activities the teacher may do.

The sixth step requires the teacher to identify the type of resources he/she will use. As well as the resources the learners may have to use during the lesson. In this step it is important to remember the resources that are available for the teacher at the school and the resources the teacher can make for themselves. Example Will teacher have to use a projector or an audio device during the lesson. Will learners need worksheets or audio headsets during the lesson.

The seventh step requires the teacher to identify an attention grabbing introduction for the lesson. The teacher as to create an interesting way to introduce the lesson. Example, in a mathematics class when teaching fractions the teacher can seat learners in groups of fours and then give each group an orange and ask learners to decide on how they will equally share it amongst themselves. There after the lesson on fractions can start.

Step 8 (the last step)

Step 8 which is the last step of the lesson planning process. This step requires the teacher to think of one or more pertinent questions that he/she can ask learners before the lesson starts. This or these questions are based on the topic and relate more to application of the content to real life, rather tan just application to the learning content. Example asking learners if division can be applied when doing grocery shopping and how.
