Digital natives were born between 1980 to 1994. digital immigrates (teachers born before the 1980's) aren't as involved in technology as students creating a boundary in the classroom. Also unwilling to embrace the new style of teaching.

From our experiences we agree, teachers often give up when using ICT rather than learning how to use it, being stuck in their own ways. However we believe there should be a balance of both traditional teaching and media usage giving students the option.

Should schools give students the choice of either paper or online to fit there own learning best?

Also should schools provide tablets/ computers for those who cant access these at home encouraging the use of ICT and media in education.

On Arguments for Fundamental changes in Education

The article is suggesting that there is an argument that this new generation of young people are disappointed, dissatisfied and disengaged. They are saying that educational institutes are becoming outdated and irrelevant rapidly and change is needed for what is taught and how. If there is no such change they fear a risk of failing a generation of students.

However there s little evidence to actually support this as there are a lot of differences to how young people are using technology at home and in school. There are restrictions for use within school also. They have found that technology plays a different role within home environments. Technology is actually being used for game cheats etc. It has also been found when using the internet for texts etc, that there needs to be more education here.
Actually there is research that suggests digital natives lack critical thinking and have shallow research skills amongst other skills lacking academically. All of the skills students have everyday is presenting a lack of evidence that this would be the case and this idea should be treated with caution.
