Challenge-Many parents at our school need child during the afternoons or work shifts, therefore are unable to attend PTA meetings. The school recently sent out a survey to choose a time that best suits parents. Based on the data gathered, the PTA was able to shift the meeting time to boost attendance. The most recent meeting had a high attendance rate.

Opportunity Conditions- Warren holds a number of fun nights at the school, such as STREAM, Math Night, etc, which encourages parents to come to the school with their kids and see some of the engaging activities that are taking place within the school. These nights excite students, because it allows them to "show off" what they are doing during their academic day.

We have changed from a PTA of 1 parent, to a PTO with many involved parents. With this change, we will be able to provide more activities that parents and students will enjoy. We are working to do anything we can to involve parents both at after school meetings and events, as well as build those relationships with the community that will help build the trust.

At Carney, we have many parent involvement activity nights. We have the winter and spring concerts, we have Barnes and Noble Night (Including our "Cougar Claws" singers), Math Night at the Food Lion (Parents and children go through the store and use math skills as they complete worksheets with food problems), Book Fair (sometimes twice a year), which is run by the PTA, STREAM Night which always includes our third grade Safe Racer, Special Area Nights where parents come with the children to go on the whittle equipment or learn to play the Boom Wackers. We have different fundraising nights the PTA sponsors where teachers participate by grabbing dinner at Chick-fil-A or McDonalds. We always have a teacher representative at the PTA meetings to listen to parent concerns/comments and share what teachers may need help with from them. Our art teacher had every students do a painting (teachers, too) that was framed and displayed by grade in the gym. Parents were able to come and see all of the art and buy their child's painting already framed. We received many donations of money or specific supplies for the art teacher to use with each grade. We have a volunteer tea at the end of the year. Students recite poems or sing to entertain the volunteers and they eah go home with a small gift. We really try to involve parents as much as possible to help communicate what is happening and demonstrate the importance of their involvement at school.

Our PTSA of one parent has expanded to a group of approximately seven participating members who have ideas and are excited to begin the middle school journey. We have restaurant fundraisers which supports honor roll recognitions throughout the year. At this time the PTSA is heavily reliant on teachers to provide leadership and guidance. Our desire is for them to increase their independence and establish a genuine partnership that can open up communication and involvement with other parents. I try to maintain communication with parents through phone calls and emails, which is an expectation in order to foster relationships and share information for individual situations.
