He has never seen such advanced technology (get real) and he has a hard time believing that all of this is possible.  There is also internal conflict (man vs. self) when he is debating whether or not he should risk being seen by sneaking over to Jen's house. Luke faces a lot of internal conflict, probably he has the time since he doesn't have to do anything.
