The Mediterranean was an important trade link with other parts of the empire, mainly through the Middle East and North Africa. The Roman empire lasted for around 500 years until a Barbarian overthrew the throne and killed the emperor Romulus Augustulus in 476 A.D. The main languages that were spoken were Latin and Greek, Latin was the l main language but over time only the general leaders and the majority of the top part of the hierarchy used Latin. The rest of the Mediterranean used local languages such as Aramaic, Syriac, Coptic, and Celtic. The Mediterranean was the main trade superhighway because there were many different cultures trading around the area. The Roman empire included most of what would now be considered as Western Europe, the main countries that the Romans conquered were England/Wales, Spain, France, Greece, The Middle East and the North African coastal region.

Saul’s conversion occurred when he was traveling to Damascus. When Saul and his men had almost reached the city, they witnessed this bright light that surrounded them and even knocked Saul to the ground. They all heard a voice that said “Saul, why do you persecute me?” Saul replied with “who are you, Lord?” and he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting; but rise and enter the city, and you will be told what to do.” From that time on Saul was renamed Paul and went on 3 main journeys across Greece and Anatolia to preach the gospel.

Paul’s first Missionary journey was the shortest in both time and distance, first of three, but it was still a very significant development in the history of the Christian Church. It established Paul as a leader in the spreading of the word of the lord. He then went on to write a great portion of the New Testament. His first journey began from Seleucia to Cyprus. After landing in Salamis, and proclaiming the word of the lord Paul traveled along the entire southern coast of Cyprus.

St Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians follows his first letter to the Romans in the New Testament of the Bible and is one of the most quoted letters of all of his epistles. Paul’s reflection on the church as the Christian community of believers begins in the first Corinthians, as he calls for harmony within the community and emphasizes that the beginning that God is faithful and that he has called us into common fellowship. Paul’s also indicated that God did not send him to baptize his people but to preach the gospel.

In Colossians, a cultural challenge is how people are divided by their beliefs. Colossians 3:11 talks about how even though we are from different religions, we are still followers of Christ and that we are no different from our neighbour because we are all the body of Christ. When Paul began preaching, he would tell people that everyone is equal and that Christ is with everyone no matter what. After he preached this, it has stayed with everyone to this day.

In Jesus Christ, God had acted to provide salvation for all who believe. This salvation, whose complete realization lay in the future, has its beginnings and in the present. Paul expressed how he is passionate towards God and how people should trust the faithfulness and salvific of Jesus Christ. Paul’s messages show what it is to be a servant of God and how grateful he was especially when he spread his word and make Christianity grow to what it is today. People, today, have taken that into perspective and has shown that they should also be a servant of God.
