Students will write about an event that is either fictional or nonfictional. It is important to show readers characters' actions instead of simply telling them about their expressions.

Example:

"She was afraid."

"Her face was frozen in fear."

It is also crucial to establish tone through characters. Describing the body language of those in a classroom versus a doctor's office can help readers understand what the tone of the writing is.

To each story, there is an obvious beginning and end. Students will practice using a cohesive narrative of the story they write.

This will be:

Introducing a setting, characters, and background for what the event is based on.

Retelling the experience with storytelling characteristics like a rising action, climax, and falling action.

Concluding the work by determining where a good place to stop might be.

Above is a video to help students understand how to write their chosen points of view. This is important to their narrative because it will help the flow of writing and consistency.

Similarly, students will choose to write in the past, present, or future and will learn to word sentences properly to remain in their story's tense.
