         <description><![CDATA[<div>In chapter 1 "The Aging Brain" David Eagleman states that people who develop the Alzheimer's disease don't necessarily experience cognitive problems. In order to prevent the loss of cognitive functions you have to keep the brain active. "Having responsibilities- was proven protective. So were social activity, social networks ... and physical activity." (30) Physical activity has a strong , positive influence in keeping our brains cognitively fit. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The author Gretchen Raynolds describes the experiment scientist do on rats, where they would attach bags of weight to one group of rats and let them climb 100-centimeter-long ladder with Froot Loops as a reward for a couple of weeks. The group of rats would increase in muscle strength and cognitive abilities. There weren’t any bigger tests on humans so far, but the scientists recommend that every person should get into some sort of resistance training, because several studies have shown that this sort of training does improve our brain health and cognitive abilities. "But a wealth of helpful past research indicates that regular aerobic exercise, such as walking or jogging, can prop up memory and cognition."</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Scientists use three different long term studies to prove that exercise doesn’t have an effect on developing Alzheimer’s. They found evidence that exercise can prevent you from developing vascular dementia but not Alzheimer’s. People that carry the APOE-ε4 allele will most likely develop the disease and exercise doesn’t help in any way to prevent or reduce the symptoms. “No association between physical activity and AD was found, neither among individuals predisposed to develop AD by carrying the <em>APOE</em>-ε4 risk allele.” Even though every other source states that exercise does prevent people from developing Alzheimer’s, this study proves the opposite. If you carry the APOE-ε4 allele, which causes Alzheimer’s, you are more than likely to develop the disease and exercise won’t stop the development.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Wendy Suzuki states in her TED talk, that exercise changes our brains anatomy, physiology and function. Through regular physical exercise the hippocampus produces new brain cells, that increase its volume which improves the long-term memory. This won’t cure the Alzheimer’s disease but as we strengthen the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex with exercise, the effects Alzheimer’s has on the brain are getting delayed and it increases the mental and cognitive functions in older adults. "But really, the most transformative thing that exercise will do is its protective effects on the brain."</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Matt Berger talks about the decrease of biomarkers in our brains due to exercising. People over the age of 60 that have moderate exercise five days a week had fewer of those biomarkers and less decrease in memory and cognitive abilities.  The theory is that exercising increases the blood flow in our brains, therefore we have an increase of oxygen that gets to our brains. "A third study found that one biomarker ... was slower to increase in people who were deemed to have high levels of aerobic fitness."</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This article lists all the benefits regular exercise has on our sleep. Physical activity can improve our overall sleep and helps us sleep a longer amount of time. Next to helping with insomnia, exercising also helps to reduce stress and relieve anxiety. It is important to have a regular amount of exercise every week. About 150 minutes every week, which are 30 minutes a day for five times a week, seems necessary. It is important to be aware that exercising too close to our bedtime will interfere with our sleep in a negative way. "Working out too late in the day can leave you feeling energized and stimulated right before bed, and delay your transition to sleep."</div>]]></description>

Endurance training stimulates a protein in our brain that is involved in the process of neuron and synapse growth, it helps us strengthening and protecting our brain cells. Scientists found out that it might be possible to capture those benefits in form from pills. This discovery would boost cognitive functions in people who suffer from a disease like Alzheimer's. The disease is irreversible and there is no cure for it. "Alzheimer's treatments cannot stop Alzheimer's from progressing, they can temporarily slow the worsening of dementia symptoms and improve quality of life for those with Alzheimer's." About 1 out of 10 Americans over the age of 65 has Alzheimer’s. The symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time until they become severe enough to interfere with simple daily tasks. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My essay investigates the effect physical activity has on the development of the Alzheimer's disease. After a substantial amount of research I concluded that with at least five days of 30-60 minutes of physical activity, the biomarkers in our brain that cause Alzheimer's decrease and our hippocampus and prefrontal cortex strengthen, which protects our cognitive functions and delays the symptoms of the disease. </div>]]></description>
