For his Photographs he uses graystone and colours washed with sepia, depending on the topic he will use different filters that comment on them. Before becoming a well known Photographer, he was working in engineering institute in Beijing in 1991 and from 1991 to 1997 then went on to photojournalism in his local paper where he covered the coal mining industry.

His signature graytone photographs have for years starkly framed, in political and provocative situations, his human subjects. When he works in colour, the tones are awash in sepia or a doctored saturation that comments on the nostalgic nature of his topics – his Peking Opera series in particular reflects this.
Liu’s background is not rooted in arts . After majoring in optical engineering at the Beijing Institute of Technology, he joined a local paper as a photojournalist, where he covered the coal mining industry. This laid the foundation for his interest in the lives of the countrymen that toil endlessly; one of his first series as an artistic practitioner explored the lives of ethnic minorities and our perception of them. He continues to eke out of the histories and stories of his subjects and topics in photography, and has published several volumes of his series.

As he traveled throughout China from 1994 to 2001 for his series The Chinese, Zheng documented a society struggling with the contradictions between traditional culture and modernization and presented a broad cross-section of society including the wealthy; the poor; transsexuals; coal miners; opera performers; and museum wax figures. In The Chinese, Zheng photographed archetypical Chinese in contemporary incarnations and often surprising situations; staged tableaux exist alongside documentary images.
After The Chinese he created more fictive figural representations, as evidenced by the series Dream Shock. Again both staged and spontaneous images coexist but this time the work, mainly nude portraits, explores the dream of what China could be and the shock of what it has become.

He is well known for his documentary/Portrait photography and best known for his Street photography. Born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, Boogie began photographing rebellion and unrest during the civil war that ravaged his country during the 1990s. Growing up in a war-torn country defined Boogie’s style and attraction to the darker side of human existence. In 1997 Vladimir granted a green card to get into the USA and is now based in Brooklyn, New York, he then moved to New York City in 1998.

    Boogie doesn’t do detached observation: his approach is, and always has been, incredibly direct. Renowned for his unflinching images, the Serbian-based photographer is a dedicated documentarian of street culture, offering rare access into some of the world’s most radicalised underworlds that, together, seem to be bound by the same nexus of violence, poverty and crime. It is an underrated skill to win the trust of America’s homeless youth, its addicts, gangsters and pimps, but a skill that Boogie has honed over the last decade.

    A native of Belgrade, Boogie shot It’s All Good in some of New York’s most notorious neighbourhoods – Bushwick, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Queensbridge – capturing rare, intimate moments of heightened human emotion set against a backdrop of gritty, urban living. We see a woman shooting up crack in her bathroom, a gangster pointing a loaded gun at the camera lens and addicts sprawled on the streets. All the while a chronic racial tension can also be felt. In an unsettling time, where most of our conversations revolve around a few stark topics; uncertainty, fear, survival and personal activism, it is easy to see how the resurgence of a photobook like this kicks up a timely message.

Michals's work makes innovative use of photo-sequences, often incorporating text to examine emotion and philosophy.
    Michals's interest in art "began at age 14 while attending watercolor university classes at the Carneigie institute in Pittsburgh. In 1953 he recieved a B.A from the university of denver. After two years in the army, in 1956 he went on to study at the Parsons School Of Design with a plan to become a graphic designer; however, he did not complete his studies.

    In 1958 while on holiday in the USSR he discovered an interest in photography. the photographs he made during this trip became his first exhibition held in 1963 at the underground galerry in New York City.

    Michals was a commercial photographer, working and covering the filming for Vogue (1974). He didn't have a studio so instead he took portraits of people in their environment, which was a contrast to the method of other photographers at the time.

    He was then hired by the government of Mexico to photograph the 1968 summer olymipcs. by 1970 his works were shown at the museum of modern art in New York. The portraits he took between 1958-1988 would later become tyhe basis of his book album.

    He is noted for two innovations in artistic photography developed in the 1960s and 1970s. First, he told a story through a series of photos" as in his 1970 book Sequences. Second, he handwrote text near his photographs, thereby giving information that the image itself could not convey.

    Boogie: I can say that I had the perfect childhood. Belgrade was really safe. We used to play on the streets all day, there was no rich and poor, we were all pretty equal. Life was easy. But then in the 90s shit hit the fan, the civil war started, and it all flipped overnight. All moral values were lost, there was a constant flow of weapons from the front lines and crime went through the roof. We were hit by the worst economic crisis you can imagine, hyper-inflation spread like a plague, people were literally starving. That’s when I started doing photography, in the dark times, and I’m pretty sure that darkness stuck with me in some way. Later when I thought about it, I realised I probably started shooting to distance myself from reality, when you are behind the camera you are an observer, not a participant.

    Hertfordshire
    UAL
    Coventry
    Greenwhich
    Brighton
    My top choice being Hertfordshire, with the offer of studying for three years, the third year studying abroad. Within those three years of studying I would also be working part time the days that I do not have university and earning money doing my own photography thing outside of education, so basically working for myself earning small money on the side.
    For my fourth year I would be finished with uni and would be working the rest of the end of the year and working half way through the next to them travel for seral months. Hopefully 2/3 of the months doing voluntary work in countries and villages that struggle and help the children and families out there, I would also love to photograph as much as I can to be added for portfolio and personal work to show people who would possibly be interested in buying it.
    For the fifth year I would again work and travel again and by the end of the fifth or sixth year be working for a photography company that I apply for or build with piers and creative people I find along the way. If not I will want to be working for myself and be freelance.

    My Five year plan now is when finishing this final year I will be working full time, hopefully in The place I'm working at now which is Telferscot Primary school. At the moment I work doing the afterschool clubs, by September hopefully I will be a full time Teacher Assistant and also hopefully be photographing the certain events as I have done before. so for a year or two I will be working there and maybe half way through the second year I will travel for the other half of the year and the first half of the year after that. Within this time I will also be doing my own photography thing on the side earning little money on the side and carrying on with it all. 
    I am still thinking about it but I am thinking about going to uni after all of that or after the first year of working full time, but still something I have to think hard about.
