Very useful starting video which helps to understand the concept of competences. Competency-based education has become a very important topic and we need to think differently about almost every aspect of our education system. And I absolutely agree that "learning to learn" is the foundation of all learning. It is better to know how to learn than to try to know everything.

Very wonderful interactive learning enviroment! I would like to have just a little bit something like in Finnish school!
My eTwinning projects show that project- based learning develops many important students' competences. I really love these 8 key principles for teaching 8 key competences:
1) teaching should be task-based,
2) teaching should be interdisciplinary,
3) learning should be both collaborative and individualised,
4) teaching needs to be both learner- and teacher-led,
5) teaching and learning should be technologically innovative,
6) teaching and learning of key competences should take place both inside and outside of school,
7) teachers should collaborate with the wider community to create more opportunities for real world learning.
8) the teaching of key competences requires teachers to pay closer attention to the social and emotional aspects of learning.

Effective assessments give students feedback and help teachers better design teaching and learning process. Assessment becomes even more relevant when students become involved in their own assessment.

I'm glad that there are countries which are more succesful in competence- based education.
In future Latvian schools plan to introduce a new curriculum based competencies approach, so changing the approach from the transmission of information to the acquisition of competencies. Competence approach will focus on the fact that the knowledge that students learn in class, will be used in different learning situations as well as in real life. This was already spoken for many years, but the reality that students be able to transfer knowledge from one subject to another, have not yet been.
