I think some aspects of this book have a connection with the reality of life. It shows in the book that life isn’t always easy and you have to work hard to achieve what you want. Which is, in this case, for Steve to be found as innocent.

Summary part 1&2

The first part of the book introduces Steve Harmon. He is a 16 year old boy, thin and brown skinned. He was arrested for felony murder. The trial starts and Steve is extremely nervous. With him is Kathy O’Brien, Steve’s lawyer. She is petite, red haired, and has freckles . Unfortunately she doesn’t really believe in Steve’s innocence. On the other side, Sandra Petrocelli, the prosecutor is obviously against Steve. Another character in the book is James King. He is also arrested and in court for felony murder. He looks a bit older than 23 years old. According to Petrocelli, Steve and James both together on this and robbed the owner, 55 year old Alguinaldo Nesbitt that Monday, when the crime happened. Mr. Evans is another character who also participated in the robbery. He testified that Nesbitt was killed. Later during the trial, Sandra Petrocelli referred Steve as “Monster” which is the reason why this book is called so. Wendell Bolden is another suspect for this crime. He has been arrested in the past for B&E and possession with intent. Osvaldo, the last person who possibly did the crime, was also in the court room and justified that he was part of a gang called the Diablos and that he cut someone up to be able to be a part of this gang. Even after everyone took the stand and justified things that no one knew before, O’Brian still thinks that Steve is in danger of being guilty and according to her, this trial isn’t going very well for Steve.
