https://www.2ra.co/tmiwfull.html

This artwork displays its sales value [GBP] that is calculated nightly offline by complex algorithms called "the endorsers". The endorsers study social media, pricing sites, and many other resources including the financial markets. They apply adjustments to the calculated price based on the age, gender, race, and sexuality of the artist. #algorithmic_bias Within the gallery the artwork price fluctuates through live streams (number of visitors) to social media (e.g. Twitter) and responding to audience behaviour. The artwork monitors the audience via 2 IP cameras and collates the data on the internet. This work was hand-built and programmed entirely by women (Rachel Ara and the neon blower, Julie Bickerstaff @ NeonUnity), referencing industries where women are often excluded.

why I think it's successful

This hybrid, sociopolitical artwork involves a few issues like feminism (referring to the provenance of neon - sex trade, and women experts practicing in the fields led by men), misinformation (referring to the application of complex coding which is used in investment banking to hide money), as well as data-mining, outsourcing skills, and conspiracies of silence.
As a rich and wide body of work, This Much I'm Worth leads to deeper thinking among viewers and mature artists. Rachel Ara has also improved the original concept in the year 2016 into a larger and more interactive digital work.

<del>I don't think there's any necessity to agree or disagree since all different voices deserve to exist.</del>

· cross-cultural sensitivity: European people are more open in behavior than Asian people. For example, European people talk and/or do more naturally about sex, which Asian people are shy about in general.

· ethnocentric orientation - ethnorelative worldview
In the old days when the world was not connected so closely, people only learnt about their own culture. So everyone was 井底之蛙 and thought his culture as the best. [Ignorance results in arrogance.] But now we can see easily what's happening on the other side of the world. We've known how different the cultures can be and how small everyone is. To some extent, the ethnorelative stages mean that people accept that we are not different from insects actually.
(Selfishness, as human nature, appears more obviously at the ethnocentric stages.)

· people are all different and all want to be liked
I am different because I don't really care about being liked or not. However, we need friends and many different relationships in this life. Even if we don't care or we don't like everybody, to build up the relationship, we have to accept and share the difference. It is the way to make the world better. Also, to know about the difference is to recognise oneself as well.
Actually, in the super international city London, most people are openminded and are careful with the issue of racism. As Chinese, I wouldn't feel very often being discriminated against. However, in the common Chinese culture, as far as I know, people are still close-minded to other cultures and the race difference. Even gender difference is still obvious, let alone sexual orientation. In mainland China, people don't really dare to be different from their group generally. Many people are still afraid of "becoming themselves".
Once you become yourself/create your own culture, you wouldn't care about who likes you or who doesn't.

· British culture?
Out of the lack in history knowledge, I still don't understand the positive side of British culture. Compared with some other European countries like France or Italy, British culture seems boring. British language is not as rich as some latin languages, either. All I know is that Great Britain looted so much in the world and seems still living on looting.

<del>· about self identification [stupidness warning]
</del><del>I am a 23-year-old Chinese woman. I always preferred to identify myself as a girl, which I know is not that important. But I guess white girls, or even black girls, at my age usually prefer to be identified as women. To be honest, I don't feel anything about black women while I hate some white women. Because I feel nothing about black men either while I like white men generally. Since white women are "women", I have to grow up from girl to woman as well. That's it.</del>
