"No. That would not be appropriate. He is my superior. And if he were troubled, he should confess it to a fellow priest, or the monsignor. We do not share intimate information with priests." p. 14

After Sister Aloysius asks if Father Flynn is in doubt, Sister James suggests that Sister Aloysius asks him about it, but Sister Aloysius says that it would not be an appropriate thing for her to do. This shows that Sister Aloysius is an old fashioned person since she is saying that it would not be appropriate for her, a nun (lower in the Church's hierarchy) to talk to Father Flynn, a priest, about his personal business. Instead, she thinks that he should go to the monsignor or another priest, which are either higher or on the same level that he is in the hierarchy. This shows that she is old fashioned and respects the traditional ways of doing things, such as keeping the Church's hierarchy.

This quote shows how strongly Sister Aloysius believes in the hierarchy of the church. By saying this, she was implying that Sister James ia at the bottom of this "chain of power". It is clear that Sister Aloysius doesn't want Sister James to take care of things on her own at the school, but wants her to follow pre-established, teaching ways. This characterizes Sister Aloysius as a strict person who likes to keep things old-fashioned and likes to keep customs traditional. -SE

"Yes, Sister" / "Yes, Sister Aloysius" characterizes Sister James as very submissive to Sister Aloysius. She will always do what Sister Aloysius tells her to do and this can foreshadow events later on in the play where she confronts the problem that we know is going to be brought up in the play in the way that Sister Aloysius wants to confront it.
