William Shakespeare [5] was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, a small town of 1,500 inhabitants, 160 kilometers north of London. The town was a center for the slaughter and sale of sheep, as well as the wool trade. Shakespeare's date of birth is unknown, but there is a record of his baptism dated April 26, 1564. This is the first official certificate of Shakespeare, since no birth certificates were issued during the time of Elizabeth I. Since baptism usually took place a few days after birth, it seems highly likely that Shakespeare was born in April 1564. The existing tradition of Shakespeare's birth on April 23 has no historical basis (at that time, children were not always baptized 3 days after birth). However, it is noteworthy that Shakespeare died on the same day in 1616. It is also the holiday of St. George, the patron saint of England, so this day can be considered a good birthday for the greatest English playwright.

Although there are no records of attendance, Shakespeare was probably educated at the new royal school in Stratford, [8] a free school opened in 1553, [9] about a quarter of a mile from his home. Edward VI, the king whose name the school bore, in the middle of the 16th century gave part of the money received after the dissolution of the monasteries to create a network of grammar schools and "spread good literature ... throughout the kingdom", but this school was founded at the beginning of the 15th century by a church city institution , By the guild of the holy cross. [10] From 1482 until England's conversion to Protestantism, a Catholic priest worked at the school. The school was free and free for all children in Stratford, and scholars assume that little Shakespeare attended, [11] although no school records have survived. Elizabethan literacy schools varied the quality of instruction, but it was standardized by royal decree, [12] and the school was sure to provide a strong education in Latin grammar and literature. Part of the training was the staging of a Latin play by the students for a better understanding of the language. There is no evidence of Shakespeare receiving higher education.
