My cousin takes acting, dancing, singing, and even cooking classes at his local college in CA.

On top of that, there is a big support community for people who have Down syndrome. Each year, a Down Syndrome convention is help in a different city wear people of all ages can connect with each other, have fun, and learn about different experiences others like them have had. The Down Syndrome Community is exactly that, a community.

Down Syndrome should not be seen as a problem that gets solved. It is a genetic mutation, so reducing the number of babies that are born with the mutation won't decrease the chance of a baby getting Down syndrome. Therefore, you are only affecting a single baby when conducting the Down syndrome screening, not an entire group of people.

It depends on how people are using prenatal screening, and how they incorporate the results. If reducing the number of people who have Down syndrome is the primary goal of prenatal screening, the process is unethical and useless because Down syndrome is an unregulated mutation. If, however, the goal is to avoid giving a child a life of hardship due to the lack of resources, the process can be justified.

This graphic narrative discusses the life of a girl named Beth who has Down syndrome. Her mother documents her experience raising a child with Down Syndrome, while sharing the personal obstacles the two have faced. I think this is a good comic to reference because it discusses Down Syndrome in an intimate, but informative way that gives the audience a different perspective about what Down Syndrome is and how it affects or does not affect a person.

This portrayal is definitely different than how people view Down syndrome in today's society.
