Maggie O'Farrell: Hamnet (fiction)
O'Farrell's novel, set in Stratford-upon-Avon, is loosely based on the life of Shakespeare and the son he lost, Hamnet. Shakespare is never mentioned by name, but his family members are. The main characters are Agnes (the playwright's wife - Anne Hathaway), the twins Judith and Hamnet, and Susanna, their older sister.

At the beginning of the story, in 1596, Judith comes down with a fever, but it is her twin, Hamnet, who later dies at the age of eleven. The story is about the loss of a child, how it affects a marriage, and maybe also about what Hamnet and his family might have been like, as historical figures. Four years after Hamnet's death, his father wrote a play called "Hamlet". Maybe it was his way of dealing with his grief.

This novel is fairly easy to read; short chapters, regular language, and an intriguing, but sad, story.

My rating: 8.5/10
/Jenny

Verity

Author: Colleen Hoover
Genre: Crime & Thrillers

Theme and language: There were some difficult words but the book wasn't hard to read otherwise. The book consisted of a plot happening right now and also a diary that went back in time.

Characters:
Lowen Ashleigh is a broke and small writer from New York who has a lot of trauma in her life. She likes to write and makes a living out of selling books, but she is not famous. She also sleepwalks.

Verity Crawford: She is a famous writer who has written a famous book series from the villains perspective. She got injured in a car accident so she suffers from brain injuries and needs a nurse for everything. She can't speak or make any contact after the accident. She is a psychopath.

Jeremy Crawford: Veritys husband. Suffers a lot from the loss of his twin daughters. He is handsome and calm.

Plot and setting: After Veritys accident her firm decides to take in a new author to finish her book series. The firm chooses Lowen, since her writing style is close to Veritys. Lowen moves in with Jeremy, Verity and their son to work on the books. Jeremy is suffering from the loss of his daughters and his wife illness. While staying in the house Lowen finds Veritys old diary and starts to read about her life. She finds out how psychotic Verity is and what evil things she has done. At the same time she starts to fall in love with Jeremy, who is married.

Personal opinions: I rate the book 9/10. It was the perfect mix of romance and thriller and it scared me several times while I was reading it. The book has a crazy plot twist in the end, which makes the writer question everything about the book. I liked it very much and would recommend it to anyone who likes romance and crime.

/Sonya

The Novel was written by the author Agatha Christie. The book was written year 1937. It's a detective story with the detective Hercule Poirot in the main role.

Hercule Poirot is on a vacation in Egypt. He has taken a break from his work and he needs to rest. He is living on a fancy hotel but out of nowhere he ends up in the middle of a trouble between som people that are deeply in love. But unfortunately there is two women and one man, and the man is married to one of them. After breaking up with the first one a bit earlier before the trip. The unlucky woman is stalking them on their honeymoon and things are fast getting worse. Out of nowhere Hercule Poirot now has multiple murders to solve...

The language in the book is pretty easy to understand. It's extremely entertaining even if I didn't solve the mystery. It was even quite unpleasant when I find out what really happened.

I really loved the book and I even went and saw the movie that is based on the book but I got a little disappointed. They changed many things from the book in the movie and it quite destroyed my experience.

The book 9/10 and the movie gets 5/10.

/Zacharias Wikström

Detective Tom Reynolds is investigating a recent murder in a city park in Dublin when he finds connections to a heap of decades-old crimes. In 1975 a baby is abducted from its mother only minutes after its birth. 35 years later a reeking fresh corpse of a nun is found in a city park, and the weirdest thing of it all, these crimes seems to have a connection. Reynolds goes on a search for the missing links to puzzle these crimes together and eventually finds the gruesome truth.

The book takes place in the city of Dublin during the early 2010s. The description of the environment makes the reading more cozy but also thrilling at the same time.

The language used in the book was fairly simple and easy to comprehend. The text in the book was also written in quite a big font which made reading the 400 page-long-book not so prolonged at all.

The very dramatic beginning of the book made the "middle-pages" a bit too long but otherwise it was a decent book. 7/10¨

-Emil

Harper Lee: To kill a mockingbird (fiction)
The novel is set in a fictional town, Maycomb, in South Alabama. The book is written from a little girl, Scout's, perspective. Her father, Atticus Finch, is a lawyer and takes on a case where he defends a black man who is accused with 🤬 of a white girl. This has an impact on the whole family and it affects Scout.

The story is from the thirties, so it's a very different environment from now.
