The book contains many really good lessons and tips that do not only relate to basketball, but life in general. It teaches you how to be successful as a individual and as a team. In other words, players tend to lose their confidence and composure when put up against strong competition, which is one major internal conflict when playing basketball. There are also many different external conflicts involved with the sport of basketball, but Phil Jackson talked most about trying to be a team player. It is hard because you want to see yourself successful, but teammates do not like a selfish player. Basketball is also not a 1 player sport. You have to learn to use everyone unique talent to the fullest advantage, because not everyone can be the best at everything.

Phil Jackson had lots of experience with basketball. He played the game himself and coached some of the best players, such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal. He himself said, that through all of his personal experience, the biggest thing he got out of the sport was that "winning is ephemeral," meaning that winning is not everything and is temporary. It does not last forever. Also, in order to succeed, you have to fail. Many of the best today, were not quite so good before all the fame. For example, Michael Jordan himself was cut from his high school team. He was determined and went through with such a strong attitude and now to this day is one of the best basketball players ever. I guess you can say positivity and attitude is everything.
