I kept thinking about how colonizers tried to outlaw Indigenous languages and dances, but they survived. The dances were so beautiful and emotional. The islander dances nearly brought me to tears. It was so incredible to be a part of such a magical event. I was in awe the entire time watching the students do their cultural dances and embracing each other and loving themselves. The energy in the room was beyond compare. All of the cheering showed how strong our community it and I will forever be grateful for this experience. The students that put this event together deserve all of the recognition for putting in weeks of practice and preparation. The beauty that I saw in every one preforming dances was one of the most incredible things I have ever seen. 

After I graduate next year I will be sad to go but I will come back and be a part of our unity fest community every year. 

Thank you so much for such an amazing and well organized and planned night that I will remember forever.
