Puritan Life

Puritans wanted to live a simple Christian life. They would wear simple cloths that were white and black as well as wanting the government to be apart of the church. They however disliked both the church and the king of Great Britain. They wanted to be simple Christians, but the church would build fancy churches, have gold, and many other things. They instead liked to be able to worship Christ from anywhere.

Puritan Beliefs

Puritans believed that they have to be good Christians, were somewhat radicals, and wanted government and Church to be one. They also believed that they are born with sin as well as some people are one of the "chosen" and people who were "damned". The chosen would go to heaven and the damned would go to hell. However, there was no way to figure out if you were chosen or not. This lead to the Puritans to want to live as good Christians which would make people say that they're one of the chosen. However, bad behavior would make people believe that someone was apart of the damned and that they will mos likely go to hell.

Witch Trials

Many of the witch trials were not based on solid evidence. They were mostly based off of accusations and feuds between neighbors. This is why so many people were accused of being witches, but there was no solid proof to back it up. Which is why many of them could not defend themselves in court and ended up being executed unless they confessed to something they weren't. There was also many ways to spot a witch which also didn't actually give any solid evidence of whether someone is an actual witch or not.

Witchcraft Hysteria

The puritans believed in witches and that the devil is actively trying to hurt Christ's kingdom on Earth. However, many accusations weren't actually because someone was a witch. Most puritans believe that all bad occurrences such as someone getting sick, died, or anything else that is bad was said to have been caused by the devil. With the puritans arriving in the new world in the winter, many of them died which made them believe that the devil is attempting to get them. This caused massive Hysteria and made them accuse anyone suspicious if something bad happens of being a witch.

Judaical System

The Judaical system did not work in favor of the accused. In fact, it made it worst for them as the judges would accept "spiritual evidence" which can only be seen by the accuser. This made it impossible for anyone accused to defend themselves of not being a witch. It also allowed the people to accuse anyone they wanted and get away with it by faking their behavior around the accused. However, if someone did confess to being a witch they would be allowed to live, but then they would be lying which the puritans believed is wrong and many picked death rather then to go against their religious beliefs.
