The girl in the tiktok says that PCOS is a common issue that affects 1 in 10 ovaries. People with PCOS typically have hormonal balances in the body and a metabolism issue. The three main features of PCOS are: irregular periods, excess hormones in the body, and free fluid sacs around eggs in the ovaries. This video gives a brief summary of what PCOS is and the three features of it.

This video is about a counseling psychologist, Dr. Diana Monteiro, who is talking about PCOS in teenagers. PCOS is not PCOD which is important because videos that I found on Youtube were talking about PCOD which is different than PCOS. She mentions that PCOS is treatable and manageable because she knows that most people think that it's not. Symptoms of PCOS are facial hair on chin or different parts of the body. It is unwanted hair growth that occurs in places around the body where it's not prevalent. PCOS is when insulin doesn't work very well which means that it causes certain problems such as gaining weight, darker skin on the neck, armpits, or inner thighs. Exercise, eating healthier, and medication will help insulin work better. This video is important because it is about a doctor who is addressing stereotypes that people have about PCOS. She wants girls to get the right information from doctors about what PCOS is. She's addressing the stereotype that girls won't be able to have children when they're older by saying that women with PCOS have healthy pregnancies and have normal children and have a completely normal life. Parents can help support their child with PCOS by talking to their daughter and helping them process about what they're living with and that they should help teach them how to deal with negative comments about the girl's weight or her hair or her acne.

This video is about a licensed social worker RMA, Melissa Kellerher, who is talking about teenagers who are diagnosed with PCOS. Teenagers who are first diagnosed with PCOS are scared because they don't know what it is, but know they have the symptoms. Symptoms are acne, unwanted hair growth, and weight gain. She wants teenagers with PCOS to be connected with a reproductive endocrinologist because they can help you medically and can connect teenagers with support services. If teenagers work with a reproductive endocrinologist, they will learn what PCOS is and learn how to control it. A reproductive endocrinologist can help manage the symptoms and can help manage how to get through their daily life in the best way possible. This video is informal because she is giving information and ways to deal with PCOS by seeing a reproductive endocrinologist who will help manage the symptoms, help control PCOS, and help to deal with it emotionally.

This video talks about a girl who lives with PCOS. A girl was diagnosed with PCOS at age 12. She suffered from irregular periods, weight gain, and body fat. She suffered from anxiety and depression. PCOS is the most common cause of anovulatory infertility. PCOS is one of the most common endocrine disorders among reproductive women. 4-5 million women are diagnosed in the U.S every year. PCOS is caused by a hormonal imbalance in the female body that can lead to a variety of internal and external symptoms. The disorder is not completely understood , but 2/3 of the symptoms must be present in order to diagnose PCOS. The symptoms are: menstrual irregularity which involves irregular/absent periods which can lead to difficulty in getting pregnant, increased levels of testosterone which is associated with excess body hair, facial hair, and acne, and the third symptom is polycystic ovaries which means abnormal cysts on ovaries which means increased risk for uterine cancer. These symptoms can be accompanied by diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. There is no cure for PCOS, but it can be managed through therapeutic methods. Studies have suggested that PCOS is more prevalent within family clusters rather than the general population. A study was done that presented 80 mothers with PCOS, 22% of their daughters tested positive for PCOS. This video gives a lot of information by giving a story of a girls suffering from PCOS, the symptoms that need to be present in diagnosing PCOS, and ways to manage PCOS.

This video is about a consultant endocrinologist, Dr. Roshani Sanghani, talking about the causes and symptoms of PCOS. PCOS tends to run in families. If women in families have it that means that someone has increased chances of having PCOS. When someone gains weight, the hormones goes out of balance which causes PCOS. Insulin resistance is where glucose is not able to enter the body because insulin is not allowing it to enter which gives people an increased chance of having type 2 diabetes and also plays a role in PCOS. Insulin level in the ovaries can increase the male hormones when insulin resistance plays a role there. There's an imbalance between the male and female hormones. The extra male hormones that are building up are giving symptoms of acne or hair fall. Other symptoms are not getting enough periods in the year. This video is important because it is about a consultant talking about PCOS and the causes of it. She talks about insulin resistance which is important because it causes male hormones. She explains how and why that happens which is important to know about. I didn't see this talked about in other videos and I thought that was interesting.

This video is about the founder of a PCOS foundation of Kenya and a doctor whose a specialist in reproductive medicine talking about PCOS. PCOS is a health problem that affects 1 in 10 women. Women with PCOS have a hormonal imbalance and metabolism problems that may affect their health and appearance. The founder was diagnosed with PCOS when she was 27 years old. Her periods had just disappeared, but they were regular when she first got them. They disappeared for three months. The doctor told her that she has PCOS, but founder didn't know what PCOS was. She looked up on Google what PCOS was and found information, but she was living in Kenya and she didn't have medication there. She told her mom and boyfriend that she has PCOS. At that time, she struggled with PCOS on her own. The symptoms she had were: acne and small bit of hair. Doctors don't know what cause PCOS, but they do know that PCOS is genetic. The founder and the doctor says that Asian women are more at risk at having PCOS than women from different countries. The doctor talks about PCOS and they symptoms of it. PCOS is when ovaries have little follicles. People who suffer from PCOS have irregular periods which means they have their period for one month and then they have their period after 3 months or 6 months or even after a year. Other symptoms of PCOS is excessive hair growth. There is no treatment for PCOS, but there are treatments for the symptoms people have when they have PCOS. . People are able to have children, despite having PCOS. 99% of women who have PCOS will have a child, but they have to be patient and persistent. The foundation gives hope to patients with PCOS. She started the foundation in 2019, but she started reaching out to women and started talking about PCOS which is how the group became large which includes lots of women. Between the ages of 13 and 19, teenage girls experience irregular periods which is normal. Having irregular periods when you a teenager doesn't mean PCOS but it's just the body adjusting to the normal cycle. This video is important because it is about a woman who is suffering with PCOS who made a foundation in Kenya and is connected with women living with this condition. In addition, this video was about the treatment of PCOS and reassuring women that they can get pregnant while living with PCOS.

This video is about a doctor, Jennifer Kulp Makarov, talking about PCOS. PCOS is a hormonal imbalance and it's very common. 1 in 10 women are affected by PCOS. It can affect teenagers, women in their 20s or 30s. PCOS can cause skin problems including acne. The hormonal imbalance causes a higher level of testosterone that can make skin prone to acne. The male hormone is slightly higher in PCOS which can cause extra hair growth with darker hair that grows in areas such as the chin or upper lip. Because there is a hormonal imbalance in PCOS, there is an irregular menstrual cycle. Some women who have PCOS struggle with weight issues which means they have insulin resistance which means their body is resistant to insulin. This video is informal in explaining what PCOS is and what it causes and some symptoms of it.

This video is about Dr. Marc Sklar who is a fertility expert. He is talking about the different variations of PCOS. There are four key features that are important to recognize if a woman has PCOS. The four features are irregular cycle, increased androgens which can be testoserone, unwanted body hair such as hair under the chin, below the navel, and around the nipples, and polycystic ovaries which is seen on an ultrasound. There are 10 variations of PCOS but these variations are variations of these four. Treatment is based on the variations women have. This video gives a lot of information about the features of PCOS. I didn't know people could only have one feature and can be diagnosed with PCOS, I thought people need to have all 4 features to make a diagnosis of PCOS.

Personal Reflection

I chose this topic, PCOS, because I have it and women in my family have it and I wanted to learn more about it. I learned that PCOS is genetic which is something that is in my family. PCOS affects 1 in 10 women but mostly Asian women which is interesting because when I was on youtube researching PCOS, I found out that most Indian women have PCOS or PCOD. I learned that symptoms of PCOS are irregular periods, weight problems, unwanted hair growth, and sometimes acne because of the male hormone in the body that overpowers the female one. What's interesting is that there is no treatment for PCOS, but treatment is only based on the symptoms people have. Medication for PCOS can be hormonal birth control, anti-androgens, diabetes medicines, fertility medicines, and cancer preventive medicines. What else is interesting is that women with PCOS think that they can't have kids, but they can, they just have to be patient. 99% of women can have kids which is so surprising to me because when I was first diagnosed with PCOS, I thought that I wasn't able to have kids. I learned so much about this topic and I"m so glad I chose it. Most people do not know a lot about PCOS and even doctors are trying to find out more. I hope someday doctors will find out the cause of PCOS, so women and girls with PCOS can understand how or why they were diagnosed with PCOS.
