"Scythe" created by Neal Shusterman is (in my opinion) the best Sci-Fi novel ever created. It's a tale about growing up, corruption and fighting for ideals. In "Scythe" people are immortal. They defeated sickness, hunger and death, but people knew, that the world would be overpopulated. And that's how the Scythes association was born. Their work and destiny is simple - they have to take lives, but they are not psychopatic monsters. Every scythe picks his/her name from their idols. Because of that I learned who Michael Faraday or Robert Goddard was. It's a novel about changes, and Citra and Rowan - main protagonists show that. I think everyone should read this masterpiece because they may learn something about important people from our past, and become important people in the future. Maybe they will also change the way they see the world just like I did. This book can only be described in one word - EXCELSIOR!

 

I'm not a big fan of love stories. I remember when all my friends were in their Twilight phase, while I was watching Star Wars. When I had to read a romance for school, I was always unhappy and bored. But there was one book, that was about love, and I really liked it. It's actually one of the most beautiful books I've ever read.

 

The River Niemen is a book written by a Polish author Eliza Orzeszkowa. The original title is Nad Niemnem. It's a novel about two young people from different classes; the girl, Justyna, was from aristocracy, and the man, Janek, was a peasant. Her heart had been already broken by her cousin Zygmunt, and he was designed to marry a girl from his village. Justyna didn't like her life in a big residence, but she found happiness in a simple life of a villager, and she fell in love with Janek. Their strongest supporters were Justina's aunt Marta and Janek's uncle Anzelm, because a long time before, when they were young, they also were in love with each other, but Marta was too afraid of hard work of a villager to marry Anzelm. Justyna and Janek's love reunited local aristocracy with villagers. They had been friends once - Justyna's father and Janek's father were even buried together in one grave, when they had died in a battle.

 

I think it is a great book, not only about love, but also about patriotism and friendship. It's also well-written; I admired the way of describing nature and feelings. I think that everyone, that hates love stories like me, should try reading The River Niemen.
