We would recommend that instead of giving up on the reading she should have sought a latin American Spanish translation and continued with her idea. In addition, she could have surveyed the students before hand to fully understand their linguistic background
A similarity that we identified in our teaching experience was the benefit of using multimodal and multimedia resources. The real life example we gave was the use of the movie Bajo la misma luna to cap a unit on immigration.

For Samantha’s case, our group agreed that the divide should not have been based on physical characteristics such as eye color, and especially not skin color as it is not a racially homogenous class. This experiment proved beneficial for a class of White students in the past, but it was only White students involved in the experiment. We also found it to be tone-deaf that food was used as the reward for having a different eye color, with most of these students living with food insecurity. An alternative we suggested was either using other characteristics, such as shoe color or even a randomized picking of which students would be treated differently in the experiment, or just get rid of the experiment completely and give a lesson on the topic instead, so no student is made uncomfortable. Lessons/experiments that we have seen as helpful are ones that are random and not based on any characteristics of the students, such as randomly handing 2 groups of students pens, and one group getting more options of pen colors, symbolizing certain people being given better resources, and therefore a better chance to succeed in the world.
