2.)Society and Jobs call for a more advanced level of thinking and communicating.  Things are constantly evolving and never disconnected.
3.)Levels of technology have changed.  Variety of text and resources have evolved.  Technology is more readily available.

Students constantly have some sort of stimuli in front of them to be engaged and connect with others; video games, apps on their phones, social media, texting, and academics. https://padlet.com/aprildavala1_1/66ii52gvshaz/wish/116931056 2. Students are inundated with media and content that helps them understand what events are going on in the world around  them.  Due to less face to face and more digital communication students are required to interact differently and be literate; both literate and digitally literate. 
3. There wasn't the word digital; classroom or otherwise in some of our educational experiences. For others, some digital content was available, but it was still not immediate feedback or very engaging.  It's very different for students of this generation with so much content, resources, and feedback from teachers and peers.
4. 21st century students need to be literate and digitally literate whether they are working in blue collar jobs or in more white collar jobs. Reading/writing is interest based. This previously wasn't readily available as often. Reading instructions on video games. 
2) More information is available. Pace of life is much faster. Email is main form of communication. Online only things (paying bills, renewing drivers license, etc). Determining what is important/valid. Everything online isn't accurate. 
3) Technology has changed literacy. iStation and other programs have replaced textbooks. More immediate feedback. More demands on students (need more skills than just the ability to read to succeed in reading due to the use of technology). Less oral conversations which leads to decreased ability to write and decreased social skills. Less focus on spelling due to spell check.
4) Learning what students should and should not post online. Using the internet to use and find information. Expectations are higher for kids today in school than previously. Social media and digital tools require students to interact with text more often. Students are sharing their thoughts and opinions  in more formats (text, email, blogging, social media).
2.There is more information available to our students and many tasks can be performed online. Students will be competing for jobs in a global economy, and need research and presentation skills for those careers.
3.Literacy is different because digital formats can be read differently. There is less emphasis on spelling.  It is more difficult to teach correct grammar when students don't apply it to texts and posts.  Emojis are used instead of words.
4.Students will be interacting with digital texts for a long time to come. They will not be able to function in society without the terminology and background knowledge of how to use digital formats. More people are reading books, magazines, and newspapers online.

We don't think that students are as actively engaged in reading print rich material (at least not at home).  They lack the ability to socialize with their peers because they have devices in front of them. https://padlet.com/aprildavala1_1/66ii52gvshaz/wish/116931137 They have different forms of reading materials.
2. There are not as many craftsman/hand-on only jobs.  Most jobs are service based in which they need to communicate effectively. 
3. Expectations have been pushed way back especially in early childhood education programs. There is a lot more pressure to teach children to read.
