Claude Monet was born in Paris, France on November 14, 1840, but when he was five years old, Monet moved to La Havre with both his parents. As a child, Monet was a decent student despite the fact that he didn't like to sit down, which led him to doodle in his notebook. His father wanted him to work in business while his mother encouraged him to do what he loved. He was in the army for two years (1861-62) but was sent back home due to health problems. A few years later he got married to Camille Doncieux and had a son, Jean Monet. They began to have problems with money therefore he became depressed and tried to commit suicide by drowning in a lake, but he reconsidered. During the Franco-Prussia war, he left with his family to London where he met Paul Durand, who began to sell Monet's art. Later on he settled in Argenteuil. His wife had a second child and passed away not long after due to her deteriorating health and giving birth to her second child only weakened her health. He had moved on to Alice Hoschede and they married in the summer of 1870, when they also moved to her city and lived with her six other children. In 1911 she passed away. Claude found that he had cataracts and almost becamae blind. Jean died in 1914 (married to Blanche who was Camille's daughter). And on December 5, 1926 Claude died of lung cancer at the age of 86.

Today artists use Impressionism in their paintings. When he became apart of the group, with his panting, he made critics see the beauty in Impressionism and that is perhaps why it's so popular now.
