I agree with Mr. Durkheim point of view of social institution because it clears seen in our society today. These institutions clearly serve as important purposes for an individual and society as a whole. It helps each and everyone of us to develop our self-esteem and confidence by socializing. It also helps in maintaining norms in society which are manners and attitudes that are acceptable in a social place. Lastly, it gives us a solution to our problems in society. An example of resolving a problem in our society would be whenever there is a road traffic accident. There is a certain social institution designed to resolve these issues in a way to maintain stability and not to worsen the situation. It provides rules that citizens must follow to ensure that disputes are solved in a orderly manner.

reflection: Social interaction has thought me that interaction in a society shapes an individual's identity and influences social structures. It also teaches us the characteristics of how a society is formed. Characteristics include: shared culture, learnt roles from others, and social systems are sometimes challenged or reinforced. I learnt that social interaction is also influenced by statuses. The ascribed status is when someone is born into a certain social position. For example, if your parents are known as highly educated people, then others would expect you to be the same as your parents, highly educated . The master status would be if you are a doctor, people would expect you to behave a certain way and the way they are treated changes your way of interacting with others around you.

Reflection: Race and ethnicity are very important in society because they helps us shape and group individuals based on identity. This also has its downside because in the past this was misused to justify inequality. In the past, if you were considered a Negroid, you were a slaved and were in the lower level on the Slavery System. These people would have to do hard labor and suffer, while the Whites were at the top and used the blacks to serve them. Thanks to a mix in the Races, this System has stopped in majority of places. Now, we can better appreciate cultural diversities and see a society that values differences as strength and not as sources of division like in the past.

Reflection: Both power and authority are fundamental concepts that helps in shaping our relationships and a societal structure. Power is something that is given without the need to work for it. Someone seen as important and rules over a nation has power. on the other hand, authority is worked for and is given to certain individuals that have a specific position in society. Authority differs from power based on the amount respect and the importance of trust someone is given by society.
