Regrettably, I did not experience the whole amount of class today since I came in late, so take this reflection with a grain of salt. I enjoyed the first class! It was nice to meet the people around me, I felt the collaborative aspect of class today made learning about the syllabus much less painful (normally, I would have to sit through a lecture). I will improve my attendance tendencies in future classes because I understand the importance of showing up on time, especially for a class which isn't lecture-based and classmates are required to work together. All in all, I am looking forward to the rest of this quarter!

In my first Rhetoric and Composition class, I got to know my classmates better through some icebreaker activities. I liked the collaborative mood of the class today, which made everything feel more engaging. This session also helped me understand important things like grading and course policies. I feel more prepared and organized for the rest of the class. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and found it helpful.

I can tell that I am going to enjoy this class incredibly due to the amount of different backgrounds I can see from just the first day. I am so excited to hear everyone's views and see where everyone decides to go with their research topics. I can't wait to expand my knowledge of writing and be a better researcher with the hopes that I can continue to expand my knowledge not only in this class but across my DePaul career. I can only hope to continue doing the fun ice breakers we did and hope that the encouragement of everyone's participation continues.

I really enjoyed the first composition and rhetoric class and I am excited to see what else we have in store for this quarter. We got to meet a lot of people through the ice breakers which was very nice and engaging in my opinion. Going into groups and learning a section of the syllabus and teaching it to other students was interesting to me. It helped me actually learn what is on the syllabus and meet new people. It was a really nice way to start off the quarter and I’m excited to see what we will do next!

For our first class, this was very entertaining, which was a really nice group because I talked to several people of different ages and backgrounds. I enjoyed the left, middle, and right assignment because it allowed me to create a long term plan in a more creative way. I am still unsure about what research topic I want to write about but I think I’m going in the right direction figuring out the process. I like the activity where other people are telling us what’s in the syllabus because it’s much better than the professor spending a long time reading through it. Overall, I really enjoyed our first class.

I appreciated being able to gain a stronger understanding of the course material as having the opportunity to converse with my classmates as I find it easier to learn when I can bounce questions and ideas off of my peers. I also learned the expectations of the class as well as having a clear outline of the class structure in regards to assignments. All in all I'm super excited going forward and I look forward to next class and really starting in on the content.

Our first class was interactive and informal, providing a great opportunity to meet new people and learn about the meaningful objects my classmates brought and why they were important to them. We also engaged in exercises that helped clarify the syllabus and expectations for the quarter. A key highlight was the initial activity, where we drew our journey—marking where we are now, the challenges ahead, and our end goals for the class. This exercise was especially useful in setting clear objectives for the quarter. Overall, I’m excited to continue learning and exploring the subject. This was a great way to introduce the new quarter.

Looking at the future assignments made me feel confident in my ability to engage with and succeed in the course. I enjoyed getting to learn the syllabus with my peers and brainstorm research topics. I'm excited about the level of freedom we have to choose and explore an area of interest, and I look forward to researching my topic. The environment of the class feels supportive and encouraging for my growth as a writer and researcher.

Today's class went over how to write a clear, focused thesis statement and how to structure an essay effectively. I learned how to make the arguments support the thesis and transition between ideas smoothly. The integration of credible sources into the paper to support the claim was very helpful and makes the argument stronger, adding depth to the writing. The peer feedback activity really brought out the importance of collaboration in refining ideas and clarity. Additionally, the strategies concerning the development of strong introductions and conclusions also provided hands-on tools for maintaining the interest of readers. Overall, it enhanced my comprehension of effective academic writing that will help in future assignments.

After our first class I can tell that WRD 104 is going to be one of my favorite classes of this quarter. Last Quarter my favorite class was WRD 103 the reason was because it was new and different for me and I actually got to express my opinions. In WRD 104 I feel like I have even more freedom since I get to choose the topics I get to write about. I also like how interactive the class is. It allows me to get closer to my classmates and I get to learn about their lives and hobbies. I hope to do better in this class then I did in WRD 103 and I hope to learn more about my classmates as the quarter moves along.

I like that she mentioned this because it made me feel like sending my email reply wasn’t just busy work that meant nothing. Her personal touch let me know that she is going to be a professor that will take the time to work with her students to help them create their best work. I also liked the ice breaker of sharing an item of importance. I never did an ice breaker like that and it really helped to get us talking to our peers.
