The governor of Hong Kong at the time, Sir Mark Aitchison Young, surrendered to the Japanese headquarters on the third floor of the hotel and was held in one of the hotel's suites for two months before being transported to a Shanghai prison. The Peninsula, which was expanded in 1994 and renovated in 2012, is still a Hong Kong classic that combines the best of colonial and modern design.

Members of the Kadoorie family, a wealthy and prominent real estate dynasty, founded the Peninsula Hotel in 1928. Kowloon was the last stop on the trans-Siberian train at the time, and the Tsim Sha Tsui quays are across the street from the hotel, where passengers would disembark from massive ocean liners. The Kadoories envisioned the opulent Peninsula as "the best hotel east of Suez," a title it more than lived up to at the time.

Cruise has been selected by the National Geographic Traveller as one of the 50 places of his life. Ferry trips are also considered one of the cheapest sightseeing trips in the world. Star Ferry was founded in 1841 by Parsis cook Drabsey Naology Mitaiwara, who wanted to try something new. On his steamer, Morningstar, he started a ferry service across Victoria Harbor. Kowloon Ferry Company was the name of a fledgling service. In 1841, a local newspaper stated that the ferry service between Pedder's Wharf and Tsim Sha Tsui operated day and night on a 40-minute to 1-hour journey. Operations were shut down on Monday and Friday to coalesce the boats. By 1860, Kowloon Ferry had four single-deck Star Ferries. In April 1984, the Mass Transit Railway Corporation sold the Causeway Bay station construction site to Taisei Corporation for $380 million. Following completion, Sogo Hong Kong, which was originally parented by Sogo Japan (Japanese:), began operations in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong on May 31, 1985. The Japanese-styled department store on Hennessy Road has become a Hong Kong retail landmark. In 1993, it underwent major renovations to become "Jumbo Sogo," expanding its area from 11,000 square metres (120,000 square feet) to 40,000 square metres (430,000 sq ft). Sogo, a Japanese company, declared bankruptcy in 2000, owing US$17 billion. The Hong Kong store was later purchased by Lifestyle International Holdings. Sogo's "Thankful Week" is a semi-annual event in which many of the company's brands hold special promotions, often with steep discounts on their merchandise. Like Black Friday, the festival has become a cultural phenomenon among both locals and tourists.

The once-bustling station has been demolished, but this red brick and granite tower, now designated as a Declared Monument, stands as a graceful reminder of the Steam Age. It has also served as a landmark for millions of Chinese immigrants passing through the terminal on their way to start new lives in Hong Kong and around the world via the city's port. The chimes can be heard every hour from 8 a.m. to midnight to commemorate the centennial of the Clock Tower Bell. It is one of the most touristic spots to see in Hong Kong with lots of dazzling lights and shopping malls.
