Britannica is usually where I direct my students to start for their research projects. NCpedia is a great resource for NC history-focused research.

I love how the PBS Learning Media has direct links to Google Classroom, so specific articles can be assigned to specific students or classes.

As if the virtual tours alone weren't enough, you can even measure the things. So to give the kids an idea of how long that dinosaur skull is, or the whale, turn on the measurement tool and mark your line and it will measure it for you.

I would direct my students to Novelist and allow them to select a text that sparks their interest. This will aid in making descriptive writing not only fun, but they will learn of the importance of using sensual imagery to paint pictures in writing that allows readers to see characters, places, etc. through their eyes.

Teach Britannica has so many options in the Bell Ringer/Exit Ticket section, the fact that the handouts are embedded in each activity is a great "value added" feature. The "Small Business Source" has a plethora of information related to small businesses from the "Startup Kit", "Business Basics", "Developing Business Plans" to "Core Business Functions", Industry Information", "Tax Guides for Startups", and everything in between! This is an EXCELLENT resource and will prove to be invaluable for our students, that already have lucrative "side hustles"

Thinking about digital citizenship instruction, I used NC Digital Kids Library to find a book to teach a digital literacy concept and found a fun book: Old McDonald Had a Phone. I found in PBS Learning Media a short video titled "Addicted to Electronics," which echoes some of the ideas from the story, and it's listed as appropriate for grades 3-5. We could expand on ideas from the story by watching the video and then using an Instructional Strategy from Teach Britannica to help guide students through an activity that would help them dig in and think more deeply about the topic.

This tool has a library of books where students can borrow from. However, it appears that students will need a library card in order to borrow the books. There are audiobooks as well. Books for Battle of the Books is loaded here as well. Students can use their technology to read or listen to books.

I chose the challenge card, My NC: Personal History Projects. In NCpedia I used the county search feature. I am from Hoke County and I found information about the formation of Hoke County over 100 years ago that effected the farm my family was living on at that time. I also found biographical information about a relative by marriage that I did not know. I think students could use this feature to find connections between themselves and their communities in North Carolina.
