The message jahrens is giving behind the quote "use less, share more". is that we as humans use a lot of energy, electricity, food, and etc. We use more than we need. If we could cut down on the use it would help a lot of people "when you examine the global geography statistics of hunger , sanitation ,disease, and poverty, the continent of africa, with its long history of resource extraction and explorations...(159)" If we could use less and stop exploiting africa maybe the statistics there would be alot better.

Hope Jahren's purpose is to bring to the readers attention to the change that has happened in the way we travel the world. She talks about how planes waste the most type of fuel compared to cars. Her target audience is the people who choose to fly over literally any mode of transportation, to show them that there are better ways to travel. She joins the conversation that cars are very dangerous and there are more road traffic deaths than murder and suicide combined. "We make formal and good-faith efforts to condemn, eradicate, or at least minimize both murder and suicide, but we vigorously duplicate and distribute the automobiles that are prone to spontaneously slaughtering us while we operate them" (95).

Hope Jahren's style of writing is that she tries to connect the arguments that she makes with real life examples that are going on or that have happened in the world already. She conveys to the readers about the way nature has been changing and the way that it has been damaged by what we believed would make our lives easier. She gives the example of how oil that comes from cars and how that oil over the course of time, has damaged the nature life in which we live in. Plants have started to die more and more as the more oil is being exposed. Jahren states, "Oil is mostly burned in the combustion engines of automobiles" (103).

(page 104) The message behind this quote is how when we go and go and go everyday, we don't think about how it affects this world. She points out in the book how we are greedy about a lot of things. We use a lot of things everyday and don't even realize how lucky we are to have it. She lets us know that there are so many bigger problems in the world than the little things.

The message she hopes to relate to readers is "Use less and share more."(122) Hearing that makes me think about sharing with others. For example, if you have something to drink and a friend doesn't, the less you drink the more you can share with them. But Hope Jahren example is using less electricity. We use a lot of food, electricity and energy. That can all be shared.

Hope Jahren's purpose is to help the reader comprehend the magnitude of the situation surrounding climate change. A quote from the story supporting this is "The United States has fulfilled 90 percent of its energy needs during the last thirty years by burning fossil fuels." (Page 106). I believe this quote is representing 'The Story of More' as a whole as it proves that the world, USA especially, is not making enough progress in the right direction to save our planet. She approaches the problems with facts instead of opinion in order to remove political bias from the story. I believe she does it this way because she believes that this problem is much more significant than anything else being discussed in present time. I think her target audience is people that have 'more' or OECD countries especially. These privileged countries use way too much and don't share enough. In conclusion, she believes that we need to use less and share more to achieve one global goal, save our planet.

"One sad fact is that the last five decades of these innovations have failed to bring about much benefit to a large fraction of the world." (pg.85 ch.10). This quote highlights the issue of producing for only those in OECs and not sharing with other countries.
I think that Jahren is referring to the need for us to share what we have a surplus of to those who have none. For example energy, and food. Also the use of finite natural resources to be reduced.

Jahren's message of use less, share more is saying we should use less and share more because we don't know when we need this energy to protect us. For example on page 141 Jahren says, “fossil fuel use continues to increase each year, as it has done during the last several decades. Inciting panic over fossil fuels running out has never really paid off, and scientists have been accused of crying wolf since 1939, when the director of the Naval Petroleum Reserves informed Congress that America’s oil reserves would not outlast a second world war.” (141).
