Epic! provides students with access to a multitude of online reading in various formats: digital fiction and nonfiction books, audiobooks and read-to-me books. 

This product meets the needs of students in various ways. Students are able to choose the reading format that best fits them. Both visual and auditory learners have their needs met, as well as students with reading disabilities, whether that means a struggling reader or a student with dyslexia, Epic! allows students to access similar information in the method that best fits them.

This tool is effective for students who are easily distracted or who struggle to focus on the text they are trying to read when the web page is cluttered with ads and links to other articles. This tool works well for visual learners who work better with images than with text. This tool will allow students to verbally share information or present on a topic without having to record videos of themselves. Many students are better able to express themselves through speech than through written text, but feel incredibly self conscious and awkward creating videos of themselves. Nearpod has many of the same benefits as Pear Deck with the primary difference being that Nearpod has many already built lessons that teachers can purchase for a one-time minimal fee per lesson. 

By making lessons interactive, students are better able to process information and stay mentally present with the content being taught. From the teacher perspective, this tool also provides the ability of embedding questions throughout the text or at the end of the text if the document is a PDF. Students can be required to answer the question before they can move on to read the rest of the story. Teachers can also leave helpful for notes for students throughout the text to point out materials or provide background information as needed.

By allowing students to interact with the text, they are more engaged in the reading experience. Accounting for engagement becomes incredibly important as a result. It is also beneficial to give students options of expression to allow them control over some aspect of their lives.

Engagement and expression also becomes beneficial when working to support students with ADHD.

I also teach one student with dyslexia, one student with visual processing disorder, and several students who are performing below grade level in reading.
