How does Moore allude to the distinct lack of happiness in American culture?

Moore changes the emotion by using the montage of videos about the media scaring the American public with Y2K, killer bees and poisoned halloween lollies. The media was scaring the public into being fearful of the society they were living in. One Halloween, people refused to give out candy and a large number of children didn't go out and collect lollies. The sense of community and celebration of a holiday was lost due to the fear.
The music becomes darker and slows to show the transition to show the distinct lack of happiness.

How does Moore Persuade the audience that Americans are fearful by nature.

He shows a montage of media footage. The general theme with all the footage shown is it is showing incidents that would make the general public fearful and worrying for themselves (Killer bees, Y2K and poisoned Halloween lollies). This portrays how the media plays a large role in increasing fear levels leading to a natural fearful society.
The sound also plays a role in showing the audience that Americans are fearful by nature. He says that all Americans live happy ever after before questioning "or did they?" When he says this the music slows completely and goes into a darker tone. This makes the audience question whether they feel that Americans feel as if they are safe or not.

What does the interview with Professor Barry Glassner highlight?

Moore includes an interview with Barry Glassner in order to highlight the influence of news and media on the public's fear. He contrasts what american's fear the most, black men and pollution a very real problem however whilst the possibility of death from crime is low the fear is increasing. When he is discussing the selective news coverage of "dangerous unnamed black men" there is an archival footage montage of black men getting arrested or suspected with emphasis on "black male" showing the overwhelming amount of footage available.

To show Americans think that small issues are not important until there are consequences for them, then they will listen. Moore tries to speak to the police officer about pollution, however he doesn't care and just walks away. It also includes the tv show of the police officer arresting a black man, revealing a reason fear is created

Why does Michael Moore use the montage of the black males? How do we feel as an audience? How is this view reinforced through the interview with Arthur Busch from Flint Michigan?

Moore includes this montage to emphasise the unnecessary fears of Americans by using a common stereotype of the violent or dangerous "black male". The voice over talks about the danger of the black man but it is contradicted by the visual of placid black men getting arrested showing no signs of criminal activity. American news covers many many cases of suspected dangerous black men and this montage reveals the overwhelming amount of coverage it gets. As an audience we become angry due to the unfairness in this stereotype that is acted out. Arthur Busch reinforces the ridiculousness of this stereotype by providing evidence of people using the black man as an excuse or scapegoat. He also speaks of the fear that Americans have that the black man is savage which is supported by archival footage of a TV portrayal of a black man.

The media heavily influenced people's decisions and had largely impacted on how they acted afrterwards.
Moore then takes a walk down South Central, Los Angeles with Prof. Barry Glassner who is the author of "Culture of Fear" where they dicuss how the media exaggerates and focuses on certain segments that intend to inform and scare the audience.
A montage of black males being arrested is shown and emphasizes the stereotype of the black community which gives the impression that all of them are violent.
