I have used Final Cut Pro in

order to edit any videos I have created during my A2 media course, in
particular my music video product. I have used this as it very useful for
editing videos as a large variety of tools were at my disposal as I went
through the editing process. One of the most important things Final Cut Pro
allowed me to do was combine my footage with a soundtrack, in this case
Boulevard of Broken Dreams being the music I selected to create my video for.
Final Cut Pro also allowed me to easily move about and combine pieces of
footage together to piece together my music video, with the option to finely
tune how much I move these clips. This was very useful as it made it simple to
place certain parts of my footage in time with certain parts of the music to
create thought beats, as well as allowing me to make lip synching sequences
look as convincing and professional as possible.

Throughout my media course I have used Apple Macs to work on and produce my work, every piece of technology I have mentioned in this presentation I have used on a mac with the exception
of a tripod and camera, however the cameras I have use SIM cards which can
interact with the macs in order to move film footage and images. Apple Macs
have been very useful as they have also allowed me to save and store my work
safely to be opened and shared whenever needed. Macs have been essential to my
project and have made the whole process of creating my music video possible.

PowerPoints are another
useful way to display work. One example of where I have used PowerPoint during
my project is when displaying my treatment sheet. It was useful here as it
allowed me to easily display different pieces of information on separate
slides, meaning that if anyone wanted to only see one particular piece of work
they can simply just go straight to the slide that they’re looking for. Any
PowerPoints I create can then be uploaded to Slideshare which is a website
which allows you to upload PowerPoints online for anyone to see. After this I
can then take an embed code for my PowerPoint and add them to my blog.

http://www.slideshare.net/

Anything I type onto Microsoft Word can easily be managed and edited and it displays text neatly and clearly for anyone to read. Anything on here can then be copied and pasted into other formats if this is needed.

Google Forms

I used Google Forms in the research stage of my project as a way to create a questionnaire to send out to people that may potentially answer it, therefore carrying out my audience research . I would then go on to use these results to plan the video that I would create for Boulevard of Broken Dreams. In doing this I was able to arrange my results into graphs which would make my results easy to read, making the planning stage for my video an easier process. I began by creating multiple choice questions for the questionnaire that are simple and as easy to understand as possible. I also aimed to include a degree of flexibility in possible answers for people answering the questions by adding an option for them to list their own response if their answer was not present among the multiple choice questions. Upon completing the questionnaires the results would become available for me to view, allowing me to see the most popular responses, which would in turn allow me to plan a video that would appeal to the largest audience possible.

http://www.google.co.uk/forms/about/

The audience research form I created during the planning stages of my project can be seen here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1hw059tGH3_AXa7K3X-byYL140FqB1LxfONRspiwkRj8/viewform?usp=send_form

Camera/tripod

During the filming process i used a Panasonic HC-V510 handheld camera in order to capture my footage. I opted to use this camera for a number of reasons that I feel benefitted my music video and made the filming process simpler as a whole. First of all the camera is small, making it particularly simple to carry and manoeuvre as well as being simple to take to filming locations. The camera is also very easy to operate, with cinematography techniques such as pans tilts and zooms being very easy to accomplish. One issue with this camera is that the focus cannot be altered, sadly making changes of focus absent in my music video. The battery life of this camera is reasonably long, but one one occasion filming had to be cut short as the camera ran out of power, meaning that it had to be taken home for recharging. This proved to be an issue but this was largely not a problem on other filming days, though filming sometimes had to be slightly rushed in order to get a large amount of footage during one filming session . Another benefit of this camera is that it can take still shots as well as video recordings which made it useful when collecting recce shots of filming locations and images to be used on my digipak and advert. I also used a tripod while filming which was useful as it allowed me to keep the camera stable during some shots of the film. I often tried to implement a hand held feeling to my music video, but when needed the tripod was good for taking steadier shots. It was also good for filming shots from further distances such as establishing shots and long shots wear a steady camera makes the surrounding environment more obvious for the audience. One issue i found with the tripod was that it was sometimes more difficult to keep it even on bumpy terrains during filming at locations such as fields, though with some quick adjustments to the length of the tripods legs this soon solved with the help of a spirit level built into the tripod itself .
